Tailgate Plastics

Featured Replies

Alright guys,

My unlocking handle is very loose outside the car. How do I remove the tailgate plastics on the inside?

Cant see any screws etc. Is it a case of ripping it off?

Its this which is very loose.

Cheers guys. Really could be knowing how to remove the plastics.

Kind regards

Inside the handle inset on the underside of the tailgate - the bit your meant to grab to close the boot) contains a torc screw. Unscrew each from the handles. Then gently but firmly hold the tailgate sturdy and pull to disconnect the clips and that gets you to the inner tailgate. I think you have a focus? If so I think they unscrew from the underside but am on the app so can't see what you have lol

Hello there jeebowhite,

Thankyou very much for getting back to me. I apologise for not putting up make and model of the car. Thats me being thick. Yes its a ford focus. Il have a butchers at it at lunch. Didnt think to check the pull down handles. Is it a easy plastic to remove? Contemplating doing some sound deadening while its off.

Kind regards. Joe

Hope this helps,

i also needed to know how to access the back and came across this thread from a few years ago.

Not actually done it myself yet,

my car has took a knock and has a dent on the right end of plastic trim, the badge isn't flat against body either,

probably wants tightening up a bit.

its nice and easy, I took apart my CMAX bootlid and also the Mondeo when I was wiring in cameras and sensors and other things.

Basically you unscrew these and then as I say, you have to tug firmly for it to detach the metal clips from the bodywork, but as long as you dont pull with the force of the hulk you shouldnt brake anything.

I would recommend having a screwdriver with masking tape on it, in case you get too uncomfortable, lever that in and gently prise away the parts as you tug.

Hello again,

I did what you said at lunch and they were metal clips. They just pulled off. But I only pulled half of the plastics off so I could reach my arm around to have a feel of the locking button. I couldnt really reach it so would of been pointless me taking the whole thing off. But iv put alittle piece of metal between handle button and boot itself. So iv got no movement and rattle now when the bass kicks in. I hate pulling things apart lol. Il look into sound proofing another time.

Just wanted to say thankyou again me old!

Kind regards. Joe

No worries fella, glad to be of service.
