Tomtom Live Traffic And Heated Screen?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

2 questions really. Firstly does anyone own a TomTom sat nav with the live traffic thing? Opinions on it?

And secondly would it work with the heated windscreen? The satellite connection seems to work ok on my current sat nav with the heated screen, but the live traffic would use mobile internet and I'm not sure if that gets affected by the heating element? I don't have any 'data' on my phone so can't even test it like that lol.

Cheers

Tom

It should work o.k. - try it & see ?

£180 is a bit much to 'try it and see' though lol, want to make sure it'll work beforehand really!

I know I can return it if not, but that's unnecessary hassle if someone's already tried it.

Do you have a reflective climate windscreen ? I'm guessing not ?

Its an IR screen, whatever that is lol!? Think its supposed to reflect heat but it doesn't seem to reflect any more than previous non-Fords I've had.

I don't have climate, just manual AC.

Yes I/R - same thing - that MAY reflect the signal - I doubt if the heating elements alone would.

Hmm, ok cheers then. :) Hopefully someone may have one that can confirm.

i used to run tomtom and roadangel products with live updates in the mondeo with no problems and do not see the focus being any different, they work on sim card technoligy so if your phone gets a signel in the car the tomtom should.

Let's put it this way, I have my phone sat on the dash top behind the screens and I can get full signal if you want an easy answer, disable 3g on your phone and put it under the windscreen drive around and keep an eye on your gprs signal strength....

There should be no problem at all, if a mobile signal can get through the walls of a house it can get through a windscreen with heating elements. If the satnav didn't work in one of the most popular cars on the road, it would not be fit for purpose and you could return it.

I like the way you assume I have internet on my phone let alone 3G...

Unfortunately the sat nav I was looking at has jumped in price by £30 so can no longer afford it, so this thread is kinda pointless now lol. :( Hopefully the price drops again soon though.

It might sound silly but look at the likes of cash converters. Father in law buys his sat navs from there I issues, gave me one and it works perfect and is all but brand new.

I must admit I hadn't thought about that sort of place. Will have a look there now, cheers.
