Car Using Oil And Difficult To Start Sometimes?

I have a smax 1.8 2008 thats not used often use to start first turn of key but now it will not start sometimes no matter how much you try , then go back later and it will start . I've had it at local garage and they kept it for a couple of weeks they have same problem but all data reading are fine , I also noticed that it as started using more oil . last time I checked it it was half empty I topped it up use the car about 4 or 5 times over about 6 weeks and oil half empty again the car as allways been great till now .
