Gap Insurance

Featured Replies

On my current insurance policy my insurer will replace my car if it gets written off or stolen in the first year so as I saw it, there was little point in taking out GAP insurance for the first year. Does

anyone know if I can take out GAP insurance for Year 2 onwards?

On a different topic my son has just taken delivery of a new Golf GTI (company car) and I had a ride

it in yesterday. I is quicker than the ST but despite the £10K price difference, it lacked the

element of fun (for want of a better word) that the ST has and overall, I wasn't that impressed. It

did have stunning wheels though!

are you sure they will replace it without any cost? I would research that cover totally.

Gap you can cover most cars any time so even on year 5.

I use Frank Pickles as they very good Gap insurance.

Thanks for your post. Yes, that what my policy says. I am insured with NFU. I will try the company you suggest.

My policy is the same - new car provided if written off in the first year.

It was the same for me, but I bought 3 years of gap cover separately. I should have done it sooner though because I think you only have about 3 months from the day you take delivery to get the best kind of cover (replacement or something like that). I think at the time all I could get was "back to invoice".

I'd take out your own gap insurance as soon as possible, I went for replacement vehicle cover, as phil said you need to do it within a certain time ( 105 days from registration).

Read the policy carefully, AXA for example will only replace the car if the cost of repairs is more than 70% of the cars value. Seeing as they use they're own body shops for the quotes that probably won't happen. You then only get market value.
