STEREO UPDATE!

Featured Replies

Word is it can be applied both ways.

In any case, when your car arrives it will have the latest firmware installed anyways so it's not something that YOU personally should have to worry about.

Those people with 'Early Cars' (me being one) however, have got uh, one or two issues with the stereo. Now in an ideal world, the company concerned (Ford) would publicise an updated firmware (via website or mail shot) and the people with issues could get the update.

Except we are dealing with Ford, whose dealer network response range from 'Uh, it's a design feature that MP3s play like crap' to 'what is a car? My house is made of bricks'.

Chris...

Hi

If your dealer said; “What is a car”, you are fortunate.. You must have an above average local dealership.

Anyone have anymore updates on this?

I'm getting a new Zetec next week but not sure if it'll have the latest software as it's been at the garage for a while (waiting for the new number plates). One of the newest test cars they have in doesn't have the latest software either so not sure how they can update it.

I'm really after BT Audio but the garage don't seem to know much about this being missing from the car!

  • 2 weeks later...

Well I've finally got my car and I have all the mp3 skipping, mode button not answering calls and bluetooth audio streaming problems.

Has anyone actually physically had an update on their car so that it now works ok?

Its strange cos when I pair my iPhone and play music on it it recognises Ford Audio and seems to be playing the music through it but it isnt recognised by the car in any way and I have no option to switch to it in the Aux menu!

So it will deffo have the functionality to stream bluetooth mp3's? What about via a bluetooth plugin on the iPod?

Hi,

In my radio I have option of "bt audio", I can find it from menu. However I have not solved how to use it.

Bt works fine as HF but audio straming no way

If I look at the manual there isn't anything. I know that my mobile (HTC Touch HD) does suuport Bt Audio as it does work with other radios.

I also try with Nokia E90 but no luck.

I'm from Finland and local dealer did not know that it is even possible. Ford Finland is my next contact but I'm sure that they will answer only "No, not supported".

I do have some small conflicts with Ford Finland as they have given me wrong information about my car... :(

So does your manual say anything about this feature?

I really want to get it work.

I also was wandering that many of you have some problems playeing MP3's.

I used USB 1.0 or 1.1 memory stick and had a lot of problems. Then I just try USB 2.0 stick and all my MP3's are playing just fine.

Could this fix problem with some of you?

MP4 -format is not supported -> tested :D

Is this any help to anyone?

http://www.ford-mobile-connectivity.com/fi...VC_GS_A4_EN.pdf

Tried the BT Audio - nothing, Ive tried the old keep pressing AUX but nothing happens. Ive got BT and AUX but no USB port.

Well well...

As in manual http://www.ford-mobile-connectivity.com/fi...VC_GS_A4_EN.pdf I try to use Voice Control.

Selectin External Device was not hard but then I should say "Bluetooth", nothing happens :(

Then I said "Help" and got answer "Select Line In after the tone", so this means that Bt Audio is not accessible from Voice Command.

Voice Command does not know such option.

Unfortunately this did not solve broblem but lookking forward.

I did contact Ford Finland... Lets see what they say.

I will post update after I get some answers.

I tried a few times holding AUX down and pressing it but no option for BT audio.

Im guessing software update? Or theres another way?

Anyone got a pic of this working?

Small update.

My Fiesta is going to service couse there is now 20tkm behind.

Same time they will update my stereo software.

Service person told that there should be update and by Ford Finland I got information that someone somewhere get it work.

This someone is workin in Ford Finland, so aguess we can trust that info.

I have done some small tests.

Pair radio and mobile using bluetooth OK

Test Hands Free OK

When bluetooth active star your media player from mobile FAILED.

Media player itself does start and plays my mysic but I can't hear any sound. Not from mobile, not from radio.

Go to Bt Audio settings in Radio, there is no device, turn off BT from radio and sound comes from mobile.

This test means that A2DP service is not regonized or not workin as it should.

And if it is not working problem can be on mobile and/or car Radio software.

Mobile is working, it does work with other radios made by Ford.

So problem must be in car Radio and/or its software.

On Friday I know more and will update here :)

Wish me luck.

Cheers,

In order to get the bluetooth streaming working you also need to select the "Ford Audio" from the menu on your phone when you're playing a song.

Now I have some not wanted information :(

I did meet and person from Ford Finland and he got also new Fiesta.

His car was manufactured in August and in his Fiesta BT audio does work.

Later today I got answer by email.

Bluetooth module is changed in Aprill and again in August in factory, he gave me some different numbers.

And now they say that becouse this feature was not sold it is not a bug and they don't have instructions how to change this.

So we can't get this option to work...

This really might be my last Ford. This isn't only thing what is wrong in my car :(

  • 2 months later...

I know this is a big bump, but I had my firmware updated yesterday. I'm in the same state as bentfp in post 28 of this thread:

"Well I've finally got my car and I have all the mp3 skipping, mode button not answering calls and bluetooth audio streaming problems.

I have paired my phone to the car, and the handsfree works fine, but a little extra to bentfp's last line is that each time I start the car/turn on the radio and they reconnect (a good thing usually;)), the media player on my phone automatically turns on with no music from either car or phone. I have no BT Audio submenu in the car, and no setting on my phone makes a difference.

On the plus side, the screen is a lot more responsive. I plan to mainly use USB for music, but the option to use streaming is always a good thing. At least being able to turn it off, while keeping handsfree would be a start.

From what I get from Toybox's last post is that as mine is an early model (Dec 08), my bluetooth module isn't capable of streaming. But why don't I have the option to disable only this?

I also have a Titanium and I have the "BT Audio" option and it works fine, but its nowhere near as good as using usb, infact it a bit of a pain. my car was built 20th May, when was yours built?

kinda glad i didn't opt for bt/usb now, sounds a right pain in the !Removed!, all so you can spend even more money as you drive on a feckin phone bill! lol

I picked it up on Christmas Eve last year.

I found a barcode sticker thing in one of the pockets behind the seats a few months back that was dated 19 November 2008, so I guess it was built before then.

I bought it as already built as the only things I was sure about needing were the Ti-VCT engine and USB, and I wasn't really fussy about the colour. I picked it up 2 weeks after signing the finance deal...and I only REALLY went to service my MK6.5 and price up the MK7. Turns out it wasn't too badly priced hehe!!

The BT and USB are excellent additions to the car! Was just pointing out that the BT audio streaming is a bit of a pain compared to the other options available. I usually only use the BT for accepting incoming calls so its really useful for using as a handsfree, so costing me nothing.

IMO:

Forget about BT audio streaming

Forget about the AUX jack

Forget about your silly little Ipods

Just use a USB flash drive or HDD = Fastest, most simple, quickest, easyest, cheapest, basically BEST option for music in the Fiesta

Just use BT for hands free! :)

Where is the BT Audio option?

Press the "AUX" Button

Press Left (<) arrow

you should have a list that looks something like

-Aux (basically an option for the stereo jack plug)

-IPOD

-BT Audio

-USB

Mine shows as:

USB>

Which is how it was before the update, makes me wonder if the update was incomplete then. I'll have to have a word and see if thats true...

also, I agree with the sentiment of just using a USB stick. I got the almost invisible 8GB Eagletec Nano: http://usb.brando.com/eagletec-usb-nano-fl...892c041d15.html

I can just leave in there and no one knows!!

Will see if i can get some pics up later.

Its useful having different connectivity options but if you actually have a choice then go for USB everytime

the potential of the other options can be maximised in the event of a passenger having a bluetooth phone with some tunes on it or a passenger with an Ipod, but for day to day personal use the USB wins hands down

I got excited when i read 'Stereo Update' i thought someone was gonna have the update so i could it myself.. guess i will have to wait until Thursday to get mine, so i will have fully functioning USB and BT..

Is there any way of knowing or checking which version of firmware your stereo has? (without taking to a dealer)

I'm still having the problem with CD skipping. Ford claim to have done the update but still nothing. I have booked the car in for having a new stereo fitted in early January after fighting nd arguing with Fords...Still not 100% that they will fit a new stereo, but fingers crossed.

Ford just kept telling me not to burn MP3 disks using the whole disk and only to burn 50% full.

I laughed in their face ;-)

Have you tried not burning an MP3 disc using the whole disc to see if that works?

Jonny, if you could post some pics, that might be useful as I spoke to the service department today and they couldn't seem to understand the idea of streaming. I explained as best I could but was invited to 'show him what I meant'. I figure taking some screen shots of the radio with the 'BT Audio' option might help.

Cheers!!

A belated update:

It seems I can only take my car back to the dealer between 08:30 and 15:30 to get the electrician to look at it. And weekends are out of the question. I work 08:00 - 16:00 Mon-Fri and about 20 miles from the dealer!!! Not Possible ^_^

I explained this to the service receptionist and she found the electrician for me to speak on the phone to. This guy seemed to understand my plight a little more than the others I spoke to, but still couldn't help me.

He pointed me in the direction of Customer Relations, but I haven't spoke to them cos I know they'll be of little help too. I guess I'm stuck with this niggle, as it's not really bad just annoying knowing it's not perfect. However now I've had a week to play with the update, the worst part of this auto connecting to my phone's media player is that it seems to always be trying to connect:

-I get in the car with my phone's bluetooth turned on and Ford Audio as an approved device

-The car and phone find each other and the blue 'Bluetooth' symbol on the main display comes on, the hands free symbol appears on my phone with the 'Ford Audio Connected' message

-About 10 seconds later the phone's media player activates but silence from both car stereo and phone speaker

-[WHILE NOT DRIVING] I cancel the media player and return it to its home screen

-I go looking through the contacts list to find the person I want to call

-I get half way through (~10 seconds again) and the media player is back

-Repeat!

Not really bad as I say, I would just like the option to stop BT Audio streaming.

THANK YOU! omg i drive to work look at my phone when i get there and am like 'ffs its been BT Audio Streaming even though im using my usb drive and the battery is wasted' I can't find any way of stopping the BT Audio auto-switching on short of deleting all the music from my iphone! :(
