Mk3 Spare Tyre - Going From Full-Size Spare To Space Saver

Featured Replies

Hi guys

I've just got my hands on a very nice mk3 Titanium which came with the full-size spare, with all the foam to raise the floor.

We're about to have a kid and need the boot space, so I hopped on eBay and got a space saver, thinking I'd just swap the wheels over, get rid of the foam inserts adn everything would be fine...

Turns out though that's not the case, as even the space saver sits a couple of inches above the metal boot floor, meaning the boot carpet is unsupported around the edges.

Can anyone tell me if there's a different set of foam inserts that usually goes around the space saver? or some other way the boot floor is usually supported?

Cheers

yes there are.someone on here knows the part numbers and prices. no doubt he will post here soon for you.

Here you go, copied from a recent post by Stoney. There are 2 parts as you know, insert 1 & 2.

For the foam inserts here are the part (Finis) numbers and approximate prices-

Insert 1 -

Steel wheel - Finis 1705191 - £28.23

Mini steel wheel - Finis 1705192 - £14.40

Insert 2-

Steel wheel - Finis 1705193 - £35.35

Mini steel wheel - Finis 1705194 - £28.23

What are you doing with the full size spare and foam Chris as i am after a spare for my focus bought last week?

Cheers

Great - thanks Wes.

I'll be selling the full size one / foam as soon as I get the replacements. Happily give you first dibs on them for a sensible offer (though how I'd go about posting them to Cheshire I dunno!).

That was my next question lol, where abouts are you? Nowhere near Cheshire i guess then!:D

Just checked your profile - Surrey! Oh well, was worth asking anyway.

I have a space saver and really wish I had a full size spare.

Kids are all grown up so don't have a problem with space in the boot ( except when I can't fit enough beer in there :-)

Swop would be good. I have the required inserts

Edited to say I have 17" on mine.

One thing worth considering before you sell your wheel and as you have a child on the way is what would you do in the event of a blow-out. My wife has had 2 and my daughter has had 1 and without a spare would have been up poo Creek without a paddle.

The OP is swapping the full size spare for a spacesaver, not getting rid of a spare altogether.

Good point

Thanks for all the comments guys - new foam bits now ordered, so I - For reference, they came at 51.59 inc VAT and postage from Ford Parts UK

Thanks for the part numbers Stoney. Had to use them today as my local parts guy couldnt find the mini wheel foam on the system. Got the 2 parts for £50 and a brand new spacesaver and tool kit for £70 delivered off ebay. £120 all in could have been spent elsewhere but i didnt like only having a tub of foam and a compressor. After all that ive just found a screw in my tyre lol so will get that repaired on saturday!

Thumbs-up for the name check ;)

No probs! Credit where its due! ;)Thats what these forums are all about, helpful advice and tips from like minded enthusiasts.
