Engine Malufunction Light Issue

Featured Replies

Hi all,

This is my first post so thanks in advance for any replies.

I have a 2008 Ford Mondeo 2.2 Tdci Titanium X. Over the past few weeks I have been getting the engine malfunction symbol appear on the small dashboard screen. Once I have selected OK to acknowledge I have seen the symbol it leaves a small yellow circle with a triangle on my dash to indicate there is still a fault.

The problem is the fault clears itself, sometime it last for a few seconds and other times a few minutes. I have had the AA out but because the fault clears itself they cannot pull any information from the car.

Has anybody had any experience with this and can offer any advice tips? Is my best option to give it to the garage to drive around and pull over once the fault occurs to plug in there decoder?

Thanks

Guy

I have come across this before on a mk4 mondeo, malfunction light on the dashboard but nothing coming up.

Turned out it needed an oil change, cant remember if it had detected fuel in oil or not - memory aint great

Could be diluted oil due to D.P.F. regen's ? , i'd buy a code reader & interrogate immediately next time it happens.

The mondeo I went to look at wouldn't show anything up on obd2, probably needs a ford system

I thought an OBD device could read past fault codes i.e. if there was a fault before but it doesn't appear any more, is that not the case?

Yes it can read stored and pending fault codes. It will read past codes if they have not been cleared.

I have also come across this on a Mini recently, engine malfunction error, stuck the code reader in and it comes up with nothing! Car was taken to the dealership where they come up with the coolant level being low having triggered it.

Thanks for all the replies, have got this booked in the garage tomorrow for them to take a look at.

Will relay your comments to them and hopefully they can diagnose and fix.

Thanks again!
