Aux Belt Rattle Or Is It The Cam Chain

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a great 2002 tdci Mondeo 105k, it has just developed a rattle on the Aux belt (alternator side) I cannot decide if its the belt, tensioner and cranshaft or the cam chain. Is there any quick way of telling and also if it is the aux belt, is it just a rattle or can any other damage occur.

Many thanks for any help.

Winston

Take the belt off crank and run engine, that will confirm engine rattle or not, normally its the tensioner or damper crank pulley.

Struth, simple diagnosis, one I had not even considered.

Many thanks

If its the chain I will fix immediately, do I need to if its the belt.

Cheers
