Overfuelling can be caused by a number of reasons - a fault code would help in narrowing down the root cause

It could be lack of air too, or just a lack of air, however as the EGRV is blanked the engine should be receiving circa 20% more clean air, so I suspect a fuelling issue - probably injectors

So this could be dangerous for the engine?

Everything went back on correctly. The same way it came off

It's not doing it any good & excess soot is clogging up the DPF too

DPF has been removed hasn't it?

Yeah it has. Would this be the problem?

Unlikely but could be detrimental to back pressure

Could it one of the rubber pipes connected maybe is split?

It should be fine as the cdpf unlike the dpf with eloys has no way of knowing if the dpf is fitted or not as there are no sensors at all. Could be a number of things but you really do need to get the codes read to help narrow it down.

To reiterate - your black smoke issue is caused by an air / fuel imbalance & you must find the cause to rectify the issue & step 1 is getting a code reader on the system to see if any fault codes are logged, & there should be

A split Intercooler to EGRV tube / pipe is always a likely culprit - inspect it microscopically

Anywhere to get the code read cheaply? Or a cheap device?

Does it need sorting sooner than that though?

Is it worth not driving it until I find out the issue?

As you have no idea atm why it's thrown the eml on personally I would wait until you've at least read the codes and seen what's the problem. I'm still leaning towards it not actually being the dpf removal and more likely something damaged or disconnected in the process of removal tbh. Since the cdpf equipped focus can't actually tell if the dpf is faulty or removed then technically it cannot be the actual removal that's the problem. More likely something else with a loose broken connection or a unlucky new problem

OK thanks. I got an idea what it may be does anyone have a ford focus I can compare it to?

Mines the same as yours mate 2009 with the cdpf non eloys type. But I'm in great yarmouth norfolk
