Help!! Titanium X Sport 2011 Needs A New Turbo!

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Cant believe this!! My car has never missed a beat in its life, my partner drove it yesterday and the engine managment light came on but car drove totally fine, I drove it the same night and all OK, next morning (today) I drove it to Ford for its service and it drove totally fine, had a call earlier saying technician had carried out service and on test drive noticed a "lack of boost" so I said can they look into it.

I had a call a few hours later saying the ECU had turbo fault codes and the car needs a new turbo at a cost of £1700.00!! The car has been looked after all its life, regular services by Ford, not been thrashed to death and only has 68k on the clock. Help!!!!

I have the code print out from Ford:

P0045....Turbo boost control solenoid circuit - circuit low - event information - Pending

P0047...Turbo boost control solenoid circuit - Circuit low - short circuit ground - Pending

P0045....Turbo boost control solenoid circuit - Circuit low - Too high current - Pending

P003A ...Turbo boost control A - Limit exceeded - Stuck - Pending

I have owned around 6 Mondeo's and most had done around 120k and never had an issue, in some ways you would not expect this on a more modern car.

Andy

seems a bit strange there pending codes??

seems like and solenoid issue rather than turbo, or maybe the variable vanes are stuck making the solenoid go past its control limits

Hi Ian,

Thank you for the reply, what do you mean by pending codes?

your post shows pending after each code, basically the problem hasnt replicated its self enough times to trigger a proper dtc,

whats happened is your driving style hasnt triggered the pending codes, but the mechanic has accelerated sufficiently past your normal driving to trigger the pending codes, and he noticed its not performing how it should( quite normal on roadtest to check)

i dont know what checks they have done, but a vacuum check on actuating rod should have been done to check for the variable vanes operation.

having the codes cleared and you continue driving for a while and rechecking would be worth doing before commiting to turbo change

If it turns out the turbo does need changing I'd take it to another garage for a 2nd opinion. Try to find a good independent Ford garage. I'd think if the car needs a new turbo you might be able to find a 2nd hand / reconditioned turbo (if you can buy reconditioned turbos) for a lot less than £1700.
