Inconsistency In Insurance...

Featured Replies

Time for a moan!

I called up Adrian Flux today (waiting for DAN's ears to peak up :p) and asked them about fitting an economy tuning box to the car, with a maximum of 20% power, as an absolute maximum). After the young lady goes away and talks to a few people, my insurance would go up by £108 for the year, and my excess would double :| wtf?

Others here have gone to AF and told them they have added a tuning box, and its just been a note on the policy, no cost increase, but for me, I am taking a 20+% increase in premium and a 100% increase in excess =|

Its main purpose is not to boost power, but to cut fuel use! and yet I feel I would be paying a lot more than otherwise its worth it :| the box would cost me £185, and yet my insurance bumps would cost more than the mod :|

I feel your pain Jeebs. Yesterday, I ringed my insurance company to ask how much they would raise the premium to have tints added to my car. The response was "we don't allow it, no ifs or buts". It's going to be quite a hot summer (and especially since my car is parked on the street), and it would also improve security. How could an insurance company possibly not allow something as simple as tints (under the legal limit), considering nearly all new cars come with tints nowadays? It's not a performance modification, neither will it change the handling of the car.

Insurance is a joke, needless to say I will be changing providers come renewal in September.

The alternative to tints is window blinds

It's an accessory not a tint and can be removed any time. Had them in the cmax and they were good

If anyone is interested I have a set of Vanstyles windowblinds from my old Mk2 Focus going begging.

They fit the 5 door mk2 and 2.5 Focus.

I paid about £75 for them originally but they have hone down in price now so I'd be open to offers.

Mint condition with all clips and storage bag.

Hello

Would you mind sending me a PM with your policy details and I'll take a look.

Thanks

Dan

Pm sent.

So I'm guessing you are not obliged to declare sunshades to insurance co? (EDIT: Perhaps Dan from AF could also provide input.)

How difficult is it to see out of them - when reverse-parking, doing shoulder checks, etc.

Just take them off sharpish if you crash! You are obliged to declare anything at all that is not factory fitted. Simple things like painting the brake callipers has resulted in claims being void!

Most insurers (even Admiral in my case) just said 'no problem we have made a note'

Ive lost count of how many times ive personally heard "we've made a note" rather than actually putting it on my documents so i have a copy too. Im sure that those "notes" may be hard to find if ever a claim was presented. Dont you just hate insurers!

I hate insurance as I will admit I'm sure most of it is a scam in some way, not just an insurer but the entire game and industry.

Dan referred my case to customer service and I got a call back very quickly. Because the tuning box I'm looking into has the capacity to increase horses, that's why they charged as much, also a misunderstanding with the contact I spoke to regarding my excess protection meant that the excess jump was higher.

If I do go ahead and get this box, it will add 50 pounds to my premium as long as I keep it set for mpg use then it's valid. Also my excess would become 350,as excess is free up to 300 with the excess protect insurance, it means should the worst happen, I would have to pay 50 pounds excess.
