Oil In Air Induction Pipework

Featured Replies

Hi All

Just been giving my Focus 1.6 TDCI an oil and filter change, and as I took off the air inlet pipework to access the filter, I noticed traces of oil at the entrance to the turbocharger. There was also oil present in the engine breather hose and outlet. We're not talking huge amounts, more like a film of oil, and it feels quite watery, but engine was warm. I have heard this is normal, but I'm looking for some confirmation that this is normal, I was always under the impression oil in air intake and/or turbo isn't a good thing.

Car performs fine, you can feel the turbo kick in when you put your foot down, it uses no oil or water. One thing I noticed is when I bought the car the oil level was fine, after I checked it a few days later it was over the max mark on the dipstick, but with no loss of any other fluids that I was aware of, definitely no coolant loss. I dropped the oil level to below the max as soon as I noticed, then remembered the car was parked on quite a gradient when I bought it, which could be the reason for the different readings. From the service history, I have worked out that the car has run just under 250 miles from last oil change to me noticing oil level was above max. There was about half to 3/4 of a litre drained off, then dipstick read 3/4 full. Didn't know if this was relevant.

Any info on this would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Nothing to worry about, quite normal on the dv6 1.6tdci.
