Under Car Rust Protection

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

My partner and I have a car each, she has a Festa mk7 60 plate and I have a Focus Mk 2.5 58 plate

Ive been looking at cleaning and treating my car for a while now, subframe, control arms, the whole works and was wondering what folk think on here,

Now my car isn't too bad on the grand scale of things, rub down the rust and treat

But the Festa doesn't seemed to have weathered as well, after some sticking pads on the front right I've had a close look under the car and her exhaust is gonna need replaced as its not looking so good, esp the gigantic back box on it, But more interestingly is the front of the car around the arm, struts etc, it looks pretty bad, perhaps because theres no undertray on her car, but in any case something needs to be done.

so I'm looking for something that I can seal and coat the car protecting it. I've seen a bunch of stuff from America that from what I gather you clean it, spray this "sealant" on it then apply a heavy top coat, I've seen the waxoyl stuff which sounds like it will work but looks to be a pig of a job and extremely messy.

Are there any suggestions that folk have tried and found work well?

to be honest, they all do the same thing, I wouldnt say there is any major difference in buying a pack of halfords to say tetrosyl?

As far as I'm aware if you gave the parts a scrub with a wire brush to remove the flaky loose bits of rusted metal you can then paint with 'chassis black' - it's a synthetic gloss or satin enamel; also resistant to oil and diesel contamination :)

Not tried it myself but considering it.
