Boot Open Warning

Featured Replies

Hi all, I've got a mk7 fiesta titanium. Love the car but it's developed an intermittent fault. When driving the boot open warning comes up on the screen with an audible ding dong and the red light in the speedometer come on. It will then flit on and off thoughout the entire journey. If I get out and open and close the boot it carries on and I must have to close it in some special way and it's fine. Then as soon as I've gone in the boot, more often than not its starts again. It's become quite embarrassing as now when the car is parked up and locked, sometimes it sets the alarm off! any ideas or will I have to take it to ford?

Many thanks

Hi James,

I had the same problem with my MK7 Fiesta.

Its the boot lock switch. Water gets in through the rear wiper and drips onto the switch and wires.

I paid about £60 when I took it to ford.

Hope this helps

Cheers

Thanks for the info, unfortunately it's not under warranted any longer. £60 isn't bad so I guess I'm taking it for ford!

I had the same thing with VW the water was getting in through the 3rd brake-light as the seal wasn't doing it job I puled it out and cleaned it up and put a tiny bit of grease round the seal and it never had the problem again.

You could more than likley get an air duster and blow all the water out of the switch then put a piece of polythene over it to stop the water from dripping into it again.

sometimes its the boot switch, sometimes its the boot latch

I had the same problem on my old st and it was the lock

Guys. I have this problem in my 08 Fiesta. I’ve took switch out no fault there b it’s operating perfectly. It opens and closes just fine and I don’t fear it popping up while driving. Just the vile din ding and boot open that’s the problem.  Is there a switch or sensor in the latch itself. As I  took the switch apart and it looked brand new spayed Wd40 where the plug goes on it.  I don’t wanna get another latch j find out its something else. Ford are far to expensive. Help plz anything appreciated.

I recently had this where it would say boot open when it clearly wasn't.

It was also setting the alarm off...

Anyway, ive fitted a new latch and its cured it straight away. Available on ebay for around £28-£30, or a main dealer one for £70 odd. i went for the Dealer option as thats what i like to do, but to be fair i know id have tried the ebay one if i was unsure on what the issue was.

Worth a punt at that for me..

Grateful to Adamc11. I have just experienced my 2nd flat battery (or inability to start the car)after washing it (2013 fiesta titanium). Had to call out breakdown on both occasions. Mechanic relative advises removing rear wiper and applying clear silicone around seal. Cheaper than going to a Ford dealer.
