Help Please - Loss Of Power

Featured Replies

Hi wonder if someone could help......

2012 smax titanium x 2.2.

Loss of power...... Ok when we got the car the power used to cut of a few seconds... took to dealer - all they said was the computer say no! then a year later, the car died 3 times so I took it back to dealer and they replaced the fuel filter(the car had done 44k and still had the original filter on it - yes I kicked off!)

this cured the issue for a while but 4 months later and the same problem. issue is the cars out of warrantee! Every time I take it back to the dealer, they find something else to replace (which does not really assure me) but cant solve the issue. I understand the issues intermittent but they have had it for 1.5 weeks now on and off and still cant tell me what wrong

so its mainly when you coast at low speeds or turn into a turning....the last time was at the weekend, I approached the roundabout and all of a sudden...no power - not good considering a blood great lorry was coming my way. When the power eventually kicked in , my foot was fully down and nearly ended up mounting the roundabout at speed!

so breaking it down there is a delay in power and its in my is mind dangerous. Spoke to ford customer services and the 16 year old who dealt with the call was slightly left of useless.

I would love some advice here

Thanks

Could be the fuel pump. However, as you reported the issue during the warranty period and the garage have failed to resolve it then you should not be paying. That is your legal right under the sale of goods act

I had a problem where my car (same as yours) had intermittent loss of power. Not to the point of cutting out, just that it didn't feel as powerful as it sometimes did or how I would expect a 200ps engine to feel.

I had a new fuel filter fitted and it was like a new car, much better power and consistent. I would recommend you take it to an independant garage that you know have good customer values without trying random things just to make some cash. I use a local garage to us in Swansea who don't even charge for some jobs if its a quick 5 minute fix ( i always pass a few pounds on just out of gratitude).

I would recommend you try one of a few fuel treatments, either BG244 which can be found on Amazon, or Forte Diesel treatment plus for a half full tank of fuel followed by Forte Diesel Particulate filter Cleaner at the next half tank full (i.e. fill to half a tank of fuel using premium fuel only and then fill another half tank of fuel with the Forte Diesel Particulate filter Cleaner), these fuel treatments come highly recommended and even though they don't come cheap at £10 - £20 a shot, I really do recommend you try it.

I filled my car with diesel from a fuel station I wouldn't normally use a few weeks ago and my car ran like a dog, even couldn't start it one afternoon, it took about 5 attempts to get it going and so I put it down to the fuel. I would recommend you to use a BP Ultimate or Shell V-Power for a few tanks, staying away from supermarket fuel. If these things do not help any then I would even suggest you call a reputable engine tuning garage who might run a diagnostics for you.

Hope this helps.
