No warning light or radiator fan but just overheats. Replaced thermostat but still the same. Mechanic used the fumes test on the expansion vessel but that tested OK.

Any ideas out there?

    The fan works and the temperature needle goes from cold to approx 80 degrees as for normal running temperature but never goes above that, even when the coolant spurts out from the expansion cap
