Ford Focus Problem

Featured Replies

Hi,

I would be really grateful for any advice on this issue.

When driving my 1999 1.8L Ford Focus (V Reg.) the speedo sometimes drops and the rev counter also does. There is a noticeable lack of power and in a couple of seconds this is rectified and the dials are active again. I've read on a number of forums possible causes of this issue, but was just wondering if any of you knowe what the problem is and whether it's advisable to go on a long drive with it?

Could the engine stop completely or is it just a non-critical electrical fault?

Thanks,

Ellis

Definitely the speedo sensor (VSS).

Available on ebay for less than £20 including new mounting pin.

A bit of a pig to remove but doable on a driveway with patience and elbow grease.

Saying that, you state that the rev counter also drops?

It could also be that the cluster needs checking as they do sometimes suffer from dodgy electrical contacts.
