Elephant!

Featured Replies

Is Elephant the way forward?

My background..

Passed driving test when I was 17

Went to uni

Just turned 20

Bought my first car (1.0 Zetec S ecoboost)

Insurance quote £611 for 10 months paid outright with 0 NCD.

No complaints from me!

How will you get your 1 yrs NCD though if you only have it for 10 months?:)

Just a side note If you live in Scotland and are insured with Elephant and have an accident they pass you onto a third party apparently! Our sons brother in law crashed his fiesta a few weeks ago and has had to do most of the 'work' himself dealing with the 'aftermath' and phoning around to get info!

They are part of Admiral.

I used their 10 month accelerator for 3 policies, so got 3 years NCD in 30 months.

I was with Elephant for my first 8 years of driving (I didn't pass my driving test until I was 29).

I started driving with a 9 year old Ford Escort and Elephant always seemed to be the cheapest (or slightly over) every year for 8 years.

When I upgraded to a 4 year old Focus they wanted some more money,

which at the time I didn't think much of it, as I was worth far far more than the Escort I scraped for £130.

Then it turned out other insurers wanted £400 less than Elephant were charging me for a full year with the Focus,

So I rang them to see if they could do anything but they wouldn't, so I left for Tesco.

Strange how Insurance works, they were the best when I was a new driver with a rubbish car,

but with 8 Years No Claims and a far safer and secure modern car, they wanted to charge me approx £200 more a year.

I had no issues with Elephant with my first car,

So if Elephant are the cheapest for you right now and you can build up your no claims then I say that's great,

My only advice is keep an eye out every year for price differences with other companies and don't let them think they have you for life.

Strangely enough I got a quote with their Admiral site and it was some £200 more expensive.

It's bizarre how even little things can send premiums sky high. I was experimenting and if I wanted third party insurance the price grew by hundreds, if not thousands. I'll definitely keep looking around though, cheers.
