So I can give it a quick once over the some of the gold two bucket approach and then wax would still retain itself? I can't help but think I'm washing the wax off!

  • After a month of country lanes and abuse, i finally cracked!! Just a simple blast with the pressure washer, then BTBM on the body work and AG wheel cleaner and poorboys on the alloys, it's lo

  • I want that golf

  • I would possibly use a glass cleaner meant for cars. I'm sure I read somewhere that there is a slight difference in chemicals or something along those line.

Yep... that'll be absolutely fine. A good shampoo such as gold (with a 2BM wash) will maintain your wax layer.

Does 2bm mean two bucket mitt lol, cause ya I got a micro fibre mitt, have to say spending the money to apply and take off with all the microfibre cloths sponges etc makes a huge difference! Being a White car tho I couldn't tell where the wax went on! And the HD stuff was a real work to rub off again, good to know the elbow grease means it's easier to clean up again!

2BM stands for 2 bucket method. A MF mitt is a good way of doing it.

If you want to be able to see your wax when you apply it, and also a wax which comes off more easily, you may want to consider a colour charged wax such as Dodo Juice Purple Haze. DanGull is your man when it comes to waxes, ask him if you want to know more about colour charged waxes :)

Only talk to DanGull if you're prepared to spend ALOT of money. However much you want to budget, you will spend at least double without fail.

Car detaling is like an ex-wife, it demands more money as time goes on

I'm not that bad

Autoglym High Def is a nice product - I'd say stick with it. If your wax is hard to take off, it's on too thick. You can help the problem by using a pre wax cleanser such as Dodo Lime Prime - but thin layers will help you more. One swipe of the applicator over the pot should easily cover the whole bonnet, possible the whole front of car.

That being said, I do indeed use colour charged waxes to help me see where I'm waxing - Dodo Purple Haze is weapon of choice at present.

I'm not that bad

Tell my why i'm spending a further £50 next payday on cleaning stuff!!

I never knew all this stuff existed before!

Great stuff, wiped it down easy, the shine came back from drying it quickly with a drying towel! Still looking goos and seems to still be well protected! However the thing that's only not really well protected are the alloys, I have spray on cleaners, but really what should I use to protect them? Couldn't find anything in hlafords.

Wheel Sealant

This is very good stuff for your wheels, and will last you a while :)

Afternoon everyone....

A little self indulgence, if I may. :P I've just spent the day detailing the fiesta, and I'm rather pleased with the results.

For those who are interested, the sequence is as follows:

Bilberry wheel cleaner, snow foam, 2BM wash with dodo BTBM, I4D clay with dodo born slippy lube, foam, dry wih I4D blue towel and MFs, dodo hard candy wax, dodo red mist, I4D tyre gloss (brilliant stuff) and that is all.

Piccies: :D

Boo hiss you and others who can drive any distance after cleaning your car without getting it dirty!!!!

Those last 2 pics are about 8 miles from my house down some country roads.... no mud anywhere to be seen :D

:( boo hiss. Mine has mud splattered up it all over again, booo. Wheels are clean though!!

Spent a good few hours doing my first clean today :) Exhausted now...

Shame the sun had gone in by the time I'd finished :( So the photos were crap and were from my iPhone...

Both Looking really good :D

My car is filthy once again, but i'm glad i've managed to detail it so i can just give it a quick once over later in the week :)

After reading 41 pages of how and why I should detail my new fiesta, i think i'm getting anal about my car

I rinsed off the car yesterday (didn't wash it) just rinsed and decided to clean my wheels to get rid of the brake dust.

It took me 2 HOURS!!! just to do the wheels!!! and that was just washing them.

So now i've made a list of what I think I should be buying;

Meguiars wash mitt lambswool

Dodo juice born to be mild shampoo

Bilt Hamber Auto Clay

Autoglym Super Resin Polish

Autoglym HD wax

Poorboys wheel sealent

dodo super natural drying towel

Dodo Juice Red mist or Duragloss Aquawax

Is this list good enough or have I missed something out?

I plan to wash the car once every 2 weeks or so.....

Forget the PB wheel sealant - get a tub of Finish Kare 1000p instead. Does a better job on wheels, costs only a little bit more but can be used on the whole car in the winter leaving your high def for the summer months.

Some Mk7 owners have also had trouble with the PBs yellowing their wheels.

I also recommend the microfibre Megs mitt over the lambswool one - these tend to deteriorate quite quickly.

While I love the Supernatural drying towels, I wouldn't want one as my only towel. Get a Sonus wonder towel or a couple I4D's own brand towels.

Other than that, good list. Duragloss Aquawax all the way, much better for me than Red Mist.

Don't forget you get a 7.5% discount at I4D with discount code FOCX :)

Right, whilst you're hear dan!!

When i was putting red mist on the MX-5 after waxing it, it was really smeary and make the bit i sprayed look awful.

Any reason why ??

Thanks for the advice. So here is my revised list;

Meguiars microfibre wash mitt

Dodo juice born to be mild shampoo

Bilt Hamber Auto Clay

Autoglym Super Resin Polish

Autoglym HD wax

Finish Kare 1000p for wheels

dodo super natural drying towel/sonus wonder towel or i4d own brand (whichever is cheaper)

Duragloss Aquawax

Once I get it all, i'll be back to ask how to use it all, lol :-)

Good list, but if you're getting clay, you'll need some kind of lube. I recently got some dodo born slippy concentrate and diluted it myself into an atomiza bottle with a chemical resistant sprayer head from I4D. I used the lube for the first time yesterday and it was brilliant. If you dilute it yourself, it lasts much longer and is an aweful lot cheaper aswell. :D

Mike, my only guess is that you would be using to much of the stuff and/or leaving it on for too long. I would probably do 3-5 spritzes for the whole bonnet and wipe it off straight away.

Wicked, cheers matey

Any good shops for the Finish Kare 1000p to pick up from, im crap with searching on google and so far the shops recommended here have been good.

Think Ill have to pick up a larger better drying towel after trying the Mequires one, it was ok but theirs just to much water left n the roof for it to soak all of it up on its own.

Alos do you guys just take the wheels off to give them the proper clean?, I cant remember the last time I lifted a wheel off and dont think I even have a jack to do this!

Serious Performance

That's where I get my FK1000P from (and a few other bits).

I do take my wheels off - but I wouldn't if I didn't have a decent torque wrench and trolley jack...

The bigger the better when it comes to drying towels.
