Focus Zetec S 180 V's Fiesta St 180

Featured Replies

looks like the fiesta original map has been done with simular peak power outputs to the focus but the fiesta looks like a slower build up in torque to compensate for lower kerb weight. thats my theory, so engines are same , just the way its mapped is different

They are missing a trick then as it would only need to be worded "also fits 1.6 Ecoboost Focus Zetec S" to appeal to the likes of myself and fellow owners.

Thanks Ian, you should know as you work on them daily. You could have answered this weeks ago!:D

Superchips do mis-sell their maps slightly.

They compare their peak vs the manufacturer's stated output. Despite the actual recorded performance at stock being higher than the stated figures.

I too believe the engines are the same, gearing, kerb weight & other software tweaks may account for marginal differences in the Fiesta ST

Not sure what the 160 means - Fraud did make a 160ps ecoboost but it wasn't fitted to the Focus as far as I can tell

Your engine must be the 185ps / 182bhp / 136kw version ( I think ) :) Wes - identical to the Fiesta ST

ecoboost 1.6 160ps in the titanium

Does anyone know if the Focus ST 250 has a larger intercooler than the Focus Zetec S? I was just looking on Mountune and the 215ps kit for the Fiesta ST doesnt include an intercooler but the Focus Zetec S 200ps kit does. I was thinking if the Focus ST 250 has a larger intercooler it may be a simple upgrade that still looks factory fitted if i sourced a used item.

I would expect the intercooler to be physically bigger on my Focus ST as it has a larger engine capacity & probably a different turbo setup - amongst other air critical differences ?

As always i'll happily stand corrected :)

Im hoping Iantt will be able to check on the computer in work!:)

will see what i can find out.

Cheers Ian. Just thinking if it is larger i might be able to pick one up cheap from someone thats upgraded their ST.

they both fit in the same location using the same bolts etc, but the 1600 has an extra small bore pipe fitting near the mapt tensor on intercooler, cant see whats that for yet. as it fits in the same location i would imagine the 2.0 st its a thicker section , and larger bore at each end.

bet the original 2.0 st intercooler is not cheap

my little intercooler on my 1.0 got an electric cooling fan bolted to it to reduce heat sink at low speed/stationary. must work as my bat seems to not get too high even with bluefin.

They will start popping up on ebay Ian as people are upgrading theirs. There are ST225 ones for under £50.

It will be handy if you find out what the extra pipes for as it will help anyone else thinking of swapping their intercoolers too. I take it that there is no outlet on the ST unit for the pipe to connect to then?

Ive just looked on Autospecialists website and seen the small outlet you mean although the intercooler for the Fiesta ST doesnt have it.

Is it anything to do with the grille shutters or does my 2012 Focus not even have those?

Not found out any more, my info doesnt show sizes or intercooler pipe sizes.

No problem mate. Thanks for looking. I will have a look at mine next time its up on the ramps to see where the extra pipe goes.

The focus 150 ps is the same engine as the fiesta st but its detuned to 150 and with a stage 1 map you can have these tuned to 215 bhp but technically its only like 35bhp increase as its the detuned 180 also your torque goes up to 340

Is it the same in all aspects bar the map?

Yhh i presume so as there both 6 speed boxed the st might boost a little bit higher than the focus

Mountune only take it to 200 PS on the Focus.

Perhaps 215 is too much with the weight of the Focus?

Celtic tuning take it to 215 bhp because in effect its a 180 bhp engine but de tuned

As stated earlier in this thread I think the 215bhp is the figure with the temporary overboost feature. Maybe Mountune quote the base figure without it?

Mountune quote it as 215 on the Fiesta.

Maybe Ford wouldn't approve a higher map as it would be too close to ST territory...?
