Mk7 Zetec S, Bluetooth Woes (streaming Music)

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I'm new to this forum so hey. I've recently bought a 1.6 petrol 2009 plate Zetec S Fiesta and like some of you before me, I've experienced some frustration with the audio system. It connects via Bluetooth and I can make and receive call via Bluetooth, however what I cannot do is stream music easily.

I've been searching through the past posts and someone mention selecting the voice command and saying "External Device/Bluetooth/Play Music" and it will play the music. This is great but I'd like to control the music via the steering wheel buttons, see the track playing on the screen, and select Bluetooth audio via the interface not by voice commands.

Things I know:

  • Updated the firmware to the latest one i could find, the 2012 November update.
  • The car does have Bluetooth
  • Can make and receive calls
  • Using voice command I can hear the music streaming through Bluetooth
  • There is no option using the interface to select Bluetooth audio ( why:( )

This is the only thing that bugs me about the car, and one of the reasons I had to have a Bluetooth capable car. I hope someone can help if so I'm sure this will help many others.

Thanks

KumiSinghs

You press the aux button several times to cycle through the options and one is blue tooth audio I believe

Thanks for the reply.

I press AUX button multiple times and it does not change from Line In. Once on the Aux menu I've pressed the left arrow and see the sub menu, the only options on there are:

  • Ipod
  • USB
  • Line In

Sadly no Bluetooth. Perplexing to say the least.

have you checked to ensure your car allows BT line for audio? Theres a bit on the ford site where it will tell you what your car can do!

Would you be able to point me in its' (the sites') direction?

Thanks!

however =( no go.

We are unable to identify the connection system installed in your vehicle

To identify the connection system installed on your vehicle, please manually search for your vehicle using the 'Find a vehicle' link here.

It's definitely got Bluetooth, because I can hear the audio from it using the voice commands but not physical way of doing it using buttons. Am I the only one with this problem?

Thanks!

So music is playing from your phone you just can't see what's playing on the screen and can't change track with the steering wheel / head unit controls?

Yes. Also can't select Bluetooth using the controls.

Yes. Also can't select Bluetooth using the controls.

Have a look at the manuals here. Looks like It doesn't have the option under "AUX" to change to bluetooth like the newer ones and see what's playing, but it does when you play through USB.

It sounds like you have Bluetooth low (BVC-Low). Audio streaming is only possible on Bluetooth high (BVC-High).

If you go behind the glovebox and unscrew your Bluetooth module you'll be able to check the model number. 85mt-19c112-AN or later (AN,AR, etc) are BVC-High and support audio streaming HOWEVER it must also be enabled in the CCC (car config).

If you don't have a suitable module, you can fit a suitable module. They cost about £80 on EBay or £300ish from ford. The hardware swap itself is easy and a clean swap. The hard part is getting your car config (CCC) modified. You'll need a willing person or dealer with the Ford ids/vcm and about 15-45 minutes of their time. There's two parameters that need changed in the car config. I'll check my notes later and reply with what these are.

Amazing, I'll break out the toolbox tonight, have a look and report back! Thank you =)

That being said it sounds like a previous owner might have done half the retrofit if you can stream music via voice command.

You'll just need one parameter changed if that is the case.

IDS Toolbox - > Module Programming (modifies ECU)

Module Programming >
Programmable Parameters > Car Configuration Parameter(s)
under Vehicle configuration

-Retrieve the vehicle configuration data

-View the vehicle configuration data

-Modify and reinstate the vehicle data

-Retrieve FordEtis derived ASBUILT data

-Configure vehicle with back-up data”

For manual asbuilt
(CCC format) XML modification:

String

20000000001000002

Change to

20000000004000005

For dropdown
asbuilt modification:

USB Accessory Unit: Select “With USB Unit and iPod
function”

Bluetooth Handsfree: Select “BT/VC Phone Interface + USB

Connect”

That's my notes for modifying the car config if it's needed.

I have had a look and it doesn't seem to be a later model than the one you specified. Mine is an AL () =( so this means I'll have to consult ebay right? I'll try and find a product when i get home tonight and let you know which one I'm thinking of buying before I purchase it.

Thanks once again

I'm not entirely sure for that model. The 19c112 part indicates it is the high model, but most suggestions for upgrading to BT audio+USB suggest AN or later.

I'd suggest before committing to buying a new module:

Update the firmware for Bluetooth. I think there's a guide for this on these forums.

Reseat the module: guide in the guides section

I've just checked my notes - audio streaming is only fully supported from 85mt-19c112-am, but it has the old style USB connector. Most people want the new style, so opt for the AN or later.

You might have the old style connector - its worth checking. If you do, you'll probably want to get an AM to avoid buying new wiring for your USB.

So I've upgraded before I created this post, reseated the module = no change. =(

I think I'll have to buy the module. However ebay has no modules that fit the bill... would I have to go direct to ford?

Direct from Ford it'll cost you big time (~£300)

Officially - ford don't support BT/vc modules anymore since about 2012 - so they might be reluctant to sell you one.

I'd recommend either waiting and checking ebay every few days for 85mt-19c112, or taking a look around scrappies for Fords 2010 or newer with a USB port.

Its also worth noting which USB connection your module has (USB female or USB mini female) - as you'd need a new USB loom or third party connector if you get a module with a different port

I've looked and I have the the female usb one as seen here http://imgur.com/fYOQ7yX. All I can find in scrap yards is the AP model which is the mini usb connector. Could I not use something like this instead of changing the wiring loom http://www.amazon.co.uk/USB-Female-Mini-Male-Adapter/dp/B00303HSSG/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1441899618&sr=8-5&keywords=mini+usb+male+to+female ?

Theoretically I don't see why not (I personally use a mini->USB female connector instead of the ford wiring - car came without USB; and it works fine)

  • Author

Oh So you've done it on yours. So it really doesn't matter if I buy the new connector with the mini usb does it? Could you give me the link to the mini>usb female that you've bought.

I haven't fitted the Ford USB cable + fascia yet so I can't guarantee the ford cable will work with a third party connector (though I can't think of any reason it won't work). Currently I just plug my USB into the third party connector behind glovebox.

I bought it for a few quid off Amazon. Mini connectors are quite difficult to track down though, the one I bought has gone out of stock unfortunately.

One note I have from that - the "one piece" connectors tend not to fit. Ones with a cable (even a short one) are a better bet.
