2006 Ford Focus Various Problems After Purchase

Featured Replies

Hi all, new to the site having bought my first Ford. A 2006 1.6 focus lx manual. A few hours after parting with the cash I went to tax it, it soon became clear that it has a fault. And I have a few other questions too.

The first fault is with the dash/cluster, whilst driving all the gauges go off. It's like having the ignition on the second click of the key but the engine is running and the cars driving fine. I actually thought it had cut out or I had somehow stalled it whilst driving.. I little tap to the top of the dash board sees it come back to life. With the little cog and warning symbol and more recently the engine warning light staying on. I've been into the dashes hidden fault finding mode. Codes are e510, d900 and e200. I've found out what all of these codes mean and it's all linked to the loose of power to the cluster. But it has another problem. Sometimes on restarting it does nothing, like the imboliser is on. Is this linked to the dash problem? One of the DTC codes is for data relating to security systems? Immobiliser? It has a 3 month warranty, which I intend to contact tomorrow. But this seems to be common. So is there anything I can do after its fixed to prevent this in the future?

Second problem is with the gearbox.. On occasion it seems hard to downshift from 4th to 3rd. This is whilst doing around 20-30mph. It seems to resist going into 3rd and it takes some doing to select that gear some times. It feels like 3rd and 4th ain't parallel to each other, like as you shift from 4th 3rd seems to be slightly offset to the left, you can feel the shifter move over slightly as it goes into 3rd. This doesn't always happen, but it seems regular enough to be a concern.

Reverse light doesn't work. But I've found that to be a faulty reverse switch which I'll replace once j know that the warranty is going to cover the dash!

Just want to know of the imboliser problem is linked to the dash problem or if it's a separate fault. Should also mention that when the engine warning light is on the code on the laptop is u0001 for high speed communication bus?

Any help would be great. Cheers, Dan

Simple answer-

Take it back, all repairs are their responsibility.
