Hello. I have a problem with my 2001 mk3 Mondeo 2.0 Ghia. It's a petrol with manual box.

The last 6 months or so I've noticed excessive noise. It only does it above 50mph or so (motorways etc).

To describe the noise, the closest I could think of is the noise when in 5th gear, it sounds like I need to move up another gear.

I don't think it's the clutch - no slipping etc. there are no leaks under the vehicle.

Has anyone come across this before? Thanks for any help.

    I forgot to mention - I've tried depressing the clutch briefly too whilst travelling at 50mph+, and the noise is still present when coasting, and it doesn't lessen.
