Focus Mk1 Help

Featured Replies

I own a 1.8 16v '99 Focus and I am Having a bit of a problem and have been searching the web for solutions, but having no luck as it stands. Seems that Almost no one has this same issue that I am but hoping someone here can help.

My car went from being fine and the coolant gauge sat at the midpoint all the time. To all of a sudden, on idle being absolutely fine, then soon as I drive, it causes the gauge to shoot up from midway, to red within a minute. Turn engine off, wait 2 mins, crack to normal temperature.

After further investigation as I fill up my coolant reservoir, pouring out of the water heater pipe (plastic one along the top of radiator) as quickly as I was putting it in.

This is a new car to me and I'm not very familiar with it, but the end of the water heater pipe that is open, at first I thought was supposed to be like that, but now I, unsure as surely this would affect the pressure in the system. Is it supposed to have a bung that perhaps came out?

I'm hoping that plastic pipe is my problem all along, and that it's supposed to be completely sealed when all hoses are attached but hesitant to buy one until I know for sure. Photos attached.
