S Max 2.2 Tdci Loss Of Power

Featured Replies

Hi. I recently bought a 09 plate 2.2 s max. It has the euro 4 engine.

It's started to lose power and is struggling to get up hills and won't Rev over 3k. I bought the egr blanking plate as I looked on the web and this kept coming up as a poss problem but it's still doing it even after I have fitted it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Check the pipe that connects the intercooler to the EGRV microscopically as they often split resulting in lack of boost

Also when was the fuel filter last changed ?

Thank you for the reply.

I don't know when the fuel filter was changed tbh. I only had it 2 months and no documentation when I bought it. Has to be worth changing first doesn't it.

Would t it happen all the time if I had a split in the pipe?

Thanks.

Change the fuel filter & see if there's an improvement

The lack of boost caused by a split / damaged pipe is often more noticeable when there is an added demand for power - going up hills for example, or overtaking

Check the connections on the pipe are tight too at both ends

Is there evidence of black smoke at the exhaust when accelerating ?

Funny enough for a diesel it's really clean out the tail pipes. I not seen any big black clouds of smoke.

In the morning. U jump in and it could run sweet for about 30 mins. Then bang. Loss of power. Then it will come back out of the blue. I thought blanking tge egr would fix it. I did remove the pipe that comes from the exhaust to it and it was quite silted up so I cleaned it. Still the same.

Any fault codes / is the EML illuminating ?

Did you reconnect the pipe to the EGRV tightly ?

Maybe turbo vanes sticking ?

At least the EGRV is eliminated as an issue as it's blanked
