What Happened To You? Thread

I broke my back in 1996 in a parachuting accident.

5 months laid up in hospital (3 of those being told every day I'd best get used to the idea I woildn't walk again) and a further 7 months residential treatment courtesy of the Tri-Services therapy centre at Headley Court.

I stubbed my toe once before, it was pretty bad, pain lasted maybe half an hour or something...

You poor thing!

I bet that chafed.

Did you get counselling to overcome the pain and suffering?

;)

Haha! In all fairness it sounds like some of you have had some pretty horrific things. Glad you're okay Clive. I've never had a serious back injury, but did "tweak" it playing rugby one match a few years ago, I remember that being agony at the time. Standing straight was OK, leaning over was killer. I remember trying to get into bed and I had to climb onto it on all fours and then just tip over, in order to not move my back. Lasted a week I'd guess, but that was my insight into back pain and it's enough to realise how horrible it is!!!

As for me, scar on stomach from op as a baby.

Scar above lip from when I was a kid and fell off a pontoon and bounced my face off it.. Bit through my face as a result.. Mum kept me off school the next day, so I thanked her by jumping on the bed, falling off and breaking my nose...

Scar on my eyebrow from running into a doorframe and splitting myself open..

Broken the odd toe and finger playing rugby.

Scars again from rugby on numerous areas.

Had a tendon separate from my finger taking bone with it and dislocated said finger at the same time... Again rugby...

All in all though, all very minor things, especially compared to you lot!! Poor bunch! Glad you're all as ok as can be expected!

Fell through a door aged 2.

Lovely scar above my right eye. Best of it is, just a week or two before, I'd put my hand through a glass door at the other end of the house lol

Also fell off a wall aged 7. Split my lip open, how I didn't lose any teeth I'll never know!! (Mother ended up playing nurse as the Oral Maxillio Surgeon hadn't got anyone (the clinic had ended and he was just arriving home when he got the call about me lol)

17 local anesthetics barely took the edge off of it. But, my decision to have a local saved me a LOT of bother - no chance for infection to set in!!)

Various scars on my hands from my own stupidity. Usually knives. But I'm also banned from using hand blenders.

Wasn't there a Specsavers near you as a kid then?

I was showing how well I could walk backwards on the pontoon when I tripped on a mooring cleat, I guess somehow bashed my face... Dad hoisted me out of the water and carried a soggy crying me home..

Broken nose was just living on the edge and falling off as a result...

And for the eyebrow thing, I was running in the playground and school playing 'it' and someone stood on my heel as I ran to the door so tripped into it... Surprisingly didn't hurt, it was only when everything in my left eye suddenly turned purple (blood dripped into my eye) that I started to panic... (I hated blood), I ran to the bathroom and tried to stop it bleeding myself with tissues, I guess in my mind if it stopped bleeding then it never happened.. (I think it was about 10 mins into lessons when someone was sent to find me or an older kid found me still dripping and trying to clean myself up) that I actually got help...

All when I was 4-6 I think ^^^ so traumatic for a little 'un, but hardly the worst thing to happen as seen by some of you guys injuries..

Ok I have another 2. Not me, my Dad.

When he was a young adult he got mashed, fell off a balcony and broke his neck. Made a full recovery though!

He was also involved in a fatal RTA. Driving a truck, pre-seat belt era, he was going down a road when a BMW came around a corner in the wrong lane and hit him head on. The occupants of the BMW were killed, and were found in the rear axle of the truck. My dad took a forced leap through the windscreen, which fortunately for him went straight through. Unfortunately for him, he damn-near scalped himself on the windscreen frame. Took over 100 stitches to put him back together again.

And a bonus story!

A friend of mine was car-sharing on his way to work, a passenger in a BMW. The driver was a show-off gimp, who binned it coming off a roundabout. My mate braced himself for the inevitable by grabbing the handle above the door, and when the car sided a wall his upper arm snapped and the bone was poking out near his elbow. He now has a metal plate in his arm, and a scar that looks like a bum hole near his elbow. Now we say he definitely doesn't know his a**e from his elbow!

When i was 17 I was riding home on my Moped from my ex's house when a Chuffing Corsa! turned into a side road without looking and took me clean out! My bike was lodged under her front end and i was sent over her car into the middle of the main road, Fortunatly there were some really kind people about that night and before i knew it I had about 15 people around me.

I remember getting up on my hands and knees and crawling round for a bit before thinking f :censored: and rolled onto my back, I came of quite lightly, Badly Grazed Knees and broke my big toes but that was all!

This it what was left of my bike......corsa was a rightoff :D
