Turning Circle

Featured Replies

I have owned several older Mondeo's, a 2007 Focus, and a 2011 Fiesta. I have now got a 2011 Focus, and I think that the turning circle is not as good, by that I mean that the number of turns of the steering wheel from lock to lock seems much less than my previous Fords. Could this be something to do with the fact that my present car has active parking assist. I have not actually checked how many turns of the steering wheel there are from lock to lock but it just seems less than on my other cars. Has anyone noticed this, or should I take more water with it !

My steering is 2 turns from full left lock to full right lock.

The ST has a variable ratio steering rack and a much quicker lock so you don't have to cross your hands on tight turns.

The normal Focus is further lock to lock but still has the same turning circle of 12m, if you have the 18s fitted as they necessitate steering rack limiters.

If you have 16" or 17" alloys the turning circle is about 11m. Not great but adequate imo for the size of car, it will be noticeably worse than a Fiesta though as it's a bigger car.

I've certainly noticed that the Fiesta ST has a larger turning circle than standard, especially when I had a standard Fiesta as a courtesy car I was amazed how sharply it could turn in a car park haha.
