Hid Kit Providers

Featured Replies

Hello all.

I'm looking into said kits and I have come across 'HID4u' and 'HID-Direct'. Has anyone used them before? What was your findings?

I'm leaning towards the later over the former as they are 50 quid cheaper!

Also, does anymore know how the H7 bulb fits to the back of the reflector? The standard black plastic connector is going to become redundant, meaning no clips to hold the bulb in place.

Cheers

Kye

What have I seen on these forums saying that after market HID's are legal and pass the MOT then??

You can use them in projector headlamps.

I'm not sure if it will pass an MOT without washers and auto levelers, or if that is just for cars built from new with HIDs...

The ones you've seen on here have been fitted in projectors. I fitted bixenon projectors in my mk6 with HIDs and the test centre didn't bat an eyelid.

If you fit them to reflectors then I'm not willing to offer any further advice. I HATE idiots. Usually chavs. Who fit HIDs in reflectors.

What you need is the H7R kit, they have been designed to be used in reflector headlamps and part of the bulb is blacked out that causes glare.

But, the reflectors still aren't optimised for the beam pattern of the HID bulb. The light still scatters off everywhere. But the scatter that would dazzle, is cut off. The light is no more concentrated on the road. You're better off with 1.) Regular halagons in Reflector headlights 2.) HIDs in reflectors designed for HIDs from the factory & 3.) Fit projectors and enjoy your HIDs

I have them in my Mk1, can't fault them & they have passed the MOT for the past 2 years without a problem. Each to their own I guess. Saying that though, I do agree there are some good halogen bulbs out there now, I had nightbreakers in my last Mk3 which were a great improvement.

I'm not saying they're an MOT failure or anything. I'm saying that the beam pattern still won't be as perfect As HIDs in a projector. I've tried it both ways & the projector is the correct & efficient way to do it.

I get what you're saying bud & I totally agree projectors are the correct way for HIDs, I was just giving my opinion of the 'R' kits available & that I'd never had a problem & never been flashed for dazzling another driver :) as long as they are aimed correctly you can still get a very decent improvement :)

Hello all.

It is the H7R's I have been considering. I don't know if it is my car or a thing with the Mk2.5, but the distance of the beam is awful. I use Philips Extreme vision bulbs and they don't do much either. Even with the headlights being adjusted not that long ago, the beam distance is poor.

If there are any good quality projector units out there, I'll look into them gladly. So far I have found that there are poor quality, hard to adjust units, or the stupidly expensive Ford ones that still won't be 'ideal' as they won't have the auto level. (Project in mind if I ever get a set though)
