Why Do People Want Different Headlights?

Featured Replies

Im part mainly of the fiesta side of things as thats my car and I have noticed alot of talk around headlights..... can someone tell me why people want to upgrade them or MOD them?

I can see a sort of safety need in a way however the standard headlights are pretty good? Im just at a loss as to why!

^ Because the standard headlight bulbs are shockingly bad in my opinion if left unmodified and not adjusted. I saw another ST the other day with standard headlights and they looked horrible, really yellow like the lights of a 15 year old Corsa lol. I wanted my lights to look whiter mainly for aesthetics, considering I spent so much on the car I don't mind spending another £30 to make it look a whole lot better, especially at night when the headlights are the only thing you see.

Also Ford set the dipped beam way too low so I had a garage adjust them properly which is kind of another modification. Without that adjustment and with the standard bulbs, I didn't feel safe going more than 50mph on country roads at night because I couldn't see far enough ahead.

Edit: To be fair at one point I didn't see the need to make this kind of mod until I started to see just how much better cars with HIDs and upgraded bulbs look, so once you decide that you want to modify your car the headlights and other bulbs are the first thing to change.

I have brighter bulbs in my focus but that is all, I love the look of the mk2.5 headlight and I reckon the HID variant looks stupid.

Phil87 got it in one. My focus headlights, even with brighter halogens, are still rubbish! The beam spread ends not that far in front of the car, which I believe to be in my reaction time period at the higher speeds (Up to the speed limit).

Country roads at night, in wet conditions are not pleasant at times.

so basically it is esentially a safety but aesthetics thing? Is there much difference then? I have a 2013 fiesta zetec so would be interested in seeing the difference

^ I suppose you could say it's both aesthetics and safety. And as for how much difference new bulbs can make, if you swap for some really bright bulbs like Osram Nightbreakers and have your dipped beam adjusted properly it will be a massive improvement in visibility at night.

I have safety in mind first. Aesthetics second. Although the later does closely follow the former I have found.

My sidelights were changed to LED's They are a lot brighter and far more noticeable. Plus they look nice too. Likewise with my DRL's. I wanted the car to stand out and be noticed. It is easier to see coming and it does turn the heads of quite a few other Focus drivers.

Hmmm Im gonna go dig around for some photos of these night breakers before and after and see if its worth the payment.

Philips X-treme vision (or something like that)work well too. I've had better performance with them over the night breakers personally.

^ They're definitely worth the price, especially at only £15 on Amazon. But have a look at the other bulbs that are available so that you don't swap your bulbs twice like I did :)
