Why Does My Car Not Respond/rev When The Engine Is Cold But Does When Warm?

Featured Replies

For the past few weeks on my 2006 mk2 focus sport 1.8 diesel I noticed that when the engine is cold, for example when it's been parked overnight and I go to start it in the morning that the car starts first time and ticks over okay but when I press on the accelerator nothing happens, it doesn't respond/rev unless I wait for a few minutes for the engine to warm up, when the engine is warm the car seems fine, revs okay.

I had a friend who had the diagnostics done using laptops and it shows open circuit or something related to the mass air flow sensor wiring. I checked wiring with a friend and wires seem torn.

is it possible that it could be related to the bad wires going to the MAF sensor? if so why is it only doing it when engine is cold or what else could it be ??

I've already replaced EGR valve and the MAF sensor itself

thanks

Definitely sounds like the cause to me.

The MAF allows the car to balance fuel input to the air density/temperature and any failure here will cause the car to not respond correctly with the right fuel blend.

Well I plan to see him tomorrow and get started , first by sorting out the wires. Instead of replacing them he says he plans on cutting them or something or fusing them together, not sure exactly but that is what I'm sure he had said, is it okay for him to do that or is that a bad idea?

I really hope that's all it is, I already have a dozen other things I'm trying to sort on the car

Thanks

If you know where the break is then splicing in a new wire to bypass the break will be fine.
