If I Cant Hear Or Feel My Turbo Does That Mean There Is A Problem ?

Featured Replies

My previous cars have been petrol, my last car was diesel but I didn't keep it for long as it had a few faults but I am sure I could hear the turbo very slightly when accelerating.

My current car also has a turbo, car is a 2006 mk2 focus sport 1.8 diesel

I've owned this car for about 7 months but have not had much time to pay attention to the turbo because of countless other things I have had to repair on my car

A few weeks back whilst my friend was replacing the EGR valve he had to remove the turbo to do it, he discovered play in my turbo bearing( made sense to replace whilst turbo was off) so he replaced the bearing in the turbo ( says he got the bearing when he went to a salvage yard)

I'm just wondering, my turbo powered car doesn't feel much different powerwise to my petrol powered cars, should I be feeling a turbo boost or something as I accelerate and should I be able to hear the noise of the turbo as I drive as I'm not sure I can hear or even feel it.

Sometimes when my car is idling and I rev my car to about 2000 RPM's on idle, when letting go and it falls to about 1800 RPM's I can hear about a 1 second whistle but it is so quiet it is almost unnoticeable, as I say sometimes it doesn't make any noise at all on idle as you rev

My car doesn't seem to be displaying any symptoms of a bad turbo in my opinion, I can't see any smoke either but I can't be sure as I can't see the rear of my car from the drivers seat.

Any ideas ?

Huge thanks

You should be feeling a turbo kick at around 1800 revs at least, if its feeling naturally aspirated, then I would say potentially something isnt working how it should be.
