Clunking Sound When Gear Changing And Pressing Off Clutch On Idle ??

Featured Replies

When doing a gear change in low gears 1,2,3 I can usually hear a clunk noise, also if my car is idling and I press the clutch, when I come off it I hear a clunk. Checked gearbox oil to find some fine shavings of metal in there. Transmission light used to come on often but after topping up with fluid several weeks ago it hasn't come back on.

Car goes into every gear excellent without struggle.

Is it possible that the fine metal shavings in GO were due to a late transmission oil change or not being changed ( as I now know that my car was neglected in the past, won't surprise me if previous owner did not replace fluid)

I know most of you are probably thinking gearbox , as am I - sort of but hoping not

What else could cause these symptoms other than gearbox failure ?

My car is a 2006 Mk2 Focus Sport 1.8 diesel and has 133 k on the clock
