Could A Timing Belt Cause Whining Upon Acceleration?

Featured Replies

After getting the wiring loom to my maf sensor repaired ( wires were torn) I hear a loud whining noise when accelerating, I hear it mostly when in 3rd gear reving hard to get up a hill or something or high speeds in 3rd gear , when I take it out of gear the whining noise stops.

A garage did the timing belt kit about 6 months ago, there is nothing wrong with the timing belt to my knowledge, I don't think I have any obvious symptoms of a bad timing belt, its just after having a read on Google I have found several sources concluding it could be the timing belt causing the noise ??

Any ideas please ppl ?

No, but having a woman in the car could cause that...

yes it could be a timing belt being too tight but this would be an issue in every gear and tickover too and since the timing belt was done 6 months ago maybe not the problem. Since the maf sensor has maybe been removed for work could just be an air pipe not refitted correctly or uninvertantly split and you only notice the noise in third as it is the gear that is used for maximum amount of time used for power.

Thank you.

Hopefully it is not the timing belt but hopefully it is nothing serious, whatever it is

I'll ask a mechanic to check the air pipes or whatever they are.

Thanks

Could be a gearbox issue if you only hear the noise when in gear.

could it be the aux belt, normally if these slip it starts to whine...?
