Engine Warning Light On After Mot

Featured Replies

Hi, hope someone can help.

My 2001 Focus recently failed it's MOT on a few things. They fitted a new catalytic converter and wiper blades.

A week later, the engine warning light came on. I suspected it was a coil pack problem so I replaced it but the light remained on.

The following week, one of the wiper blades came off as I was driving to work, so i'm now wondering if they have botched the catalyltic converter as well.

I'm not sure whether to try changing the spark plugs or just take it to a garage.

Any help would be appreciated.

Princey

Take it back to the garage. If i remember rightly there is a Lambda Sensor close to the cat so depending on how rough they were when removing it or if they used oxy acetaline torch to remove bolts they could have damaged it.

Get the fault codes read first though to determine the cause of the warning light.

Hi AdeMk1,

Thanks for the reply.

I think you might be right, they only fitted a new catalytic converter because they had a problem working on the exhaust brackets I think.

Anyway, I've just disconnected the battery for 15 mins and the engine light has gone off.

Maybe the new coil sorted the problem after all?

I ran the tripmeter check and there were no DTC codes.

Just hope the light stays off now.

Thanks for your help.

I would notify the garage of the warning lights, and also the actions you have taken and advise them if the warning light comes back, you will be taking it back to them to sort!
