Do You Think I May Have A Problem With My Timing Belt ?

Featured Replies

Hi

For about 2 weeks I have been hearing a whining sound when accelerating, I notice the sound most when in 3rd gear accelerating hard, when I take car out of gear the noise stops. The car feels fine in idle too.

The noise isn't extremely loud, just easily noticeable from inside the car when it is there.

I had a mechanic friend cut the ends of maf sensor wiring which he then fused back together but says its not finished yet because he needs to get more wires, so its basically botched up until he gets the wires.

The noise began the following day after he messed around, cutting the wires to the maf sensor. Could that cause the whining noise ?

Also when I start the car from cold, during idle when I rev I hear s sound like police sirens that seems to almost becomes unnoticeable when engine is warm, could that be related to whining noise ?

My friend replaced turbo bearing a few weeks ago, bought bearing from salvage yard.

The garage replaced timing belt about 6 months ago, is it possible the noise I am hearing is related to the timing belt at all ?

Huge thanks

A video of the noise would help people give you more replies. I assume you mean your friend changed the center rotating housing assembly on the turbo for a salvage part? I would not use a salvage turbo part as the condition is pretty much unknown.

My turbo had started to whine but was mostly noticeable at low speeds but turbo whine can often be described like a police siren of old. After checking the oil feed flow I then managed to crack the bolt hole so I ended up replacing my complete turbo anyway, but my old one would have given up sooner or later.
