Why Is My Car Struggling To Pick Up Speed As I Accelerate ?

Featured Replies

Hi

The problem began 1 day after my mechanic friend cut and fused back together the wiring loom to my maf sensor as it was previously torn , he has botched it for now as he says he will finish it when he gets more wiring.

One Day later I'm driving on the motorway, I reach 70 mph when suddenly I feel a tiny almost unnoticable thud and then my car refuses to pick up speed or even maintain 70 mph, it starts dropping slowly to about 65 - 60 mph, after about 30 seconds it accelerates again very slowly and it takes awhile for me to reach 70 mph again.

Today I entered the motorway and to my horror realised it was struggling to get past 40 mph, it took a while to get past 60 mph.

My question is, could the wiring to the maf sensor that the mechanic was messing with cause my car to have this issue ?

Mechanic hasn't witnessed what my car is doing but says it is probably the glowplugs causing it, I don't think I believe that though

So, any ideas please ppl ?

Sounds like it went into limp mode to try to prevent any further damage. Did the amber engine light come on too? First thing to do would be to plug in a code reader and see if any codes are logged. It would just be a guessing game otherwise.

certainly agree, I think the wiring is causing you issues, its probably detecting excessive fluctuations in air movement, so adjusts the fuel accordingly, causing you to notice a loss of power
