Increase In £250/year?

Featured Replies

Hi.

So, I booked my car in to have the rear windows tinted. And rang my insurance to declare them and tell them of what was going to happen. Resulted in our price going up roughly around £250/year?

Seriously?

That's ridiculous. Mine came standard on the car, so I don't see why you should even have to declare it, as it could of come as a factory added extra

£250 seems extreme.

Definitely declare it though, as should you need to claim the insurer may well refuse to pay out & you could find yourself uninsured, which is not a good place to be :)

The insurers databases are aware of vehicles that come with factory fitted privacy glass & those which do not, so the '' could have come with it '' won't wash in the event of a claim I'm afraid

Find a different insurer.

Almost certainly cheaper elsewhere with mods declared (which it must be).

Ahhh weren't aware that they were informed of what cars had what. Everyday's a school day

Well thats what they said, they have three catergories... 1. Factory fitted. 2. Factory fitted as an option.

3. Aftermarket/retrofit.

The thing is, our family is on multi-car with admiral, so, not sure on how to go about on getting my price down with affecting other cars in our family, i understand that i could just say change my price. But that probably wont work?

Admiral seem to be one of the few insurers which want even factory fit extras declared.

It is often cheaper to go with an insurer which doesn't care about anything optional, only modifications since it rolled out the factory.

We never found multi-car competitive, each car is just with the cheapest insurer.

I'd just say if they want that increase in premium you will leave, see if they can't do something then. If they don't then get quotes from elsewhere, I doubt it will cost more than a few £s more to declare tinted rear windows.

I cancelled my booking with my local tinting specialist and I am now looking to have them done in the new year. When the insurance needs re-newing, anyone got any tips/advice/help, on how I can get it done this year and get the price down?

P.s sorry if what im saying doesn't make sense, im at work atm, coaching, so, replies are a bit rushed... haha!;)
