Whining Noise Only Whilst Driving

Featured Replies

Hi Joined this forum today hoping you might help diagnose a fault on my 57 plate 2.0 Ztec max.

I can start the car up cold or warm and she ticks over fine no weird noises or rattles. depress the clutch and a slight change in noise and nothing worrying to me anyway. Select a gear and pull away and a griniding type rubbing noise starts, I can go through the gear box and the noise continues not getting louder just the same tone. If I depress the clutch while coasting the noise disappears, re-engage the clutch the grinding whining noise comes back. Could this be gearbox, diff, clutch or something rubbing against a housing. I am hoping that someone has experienced something similar. Thank you for reading my post in advance.

sounds like the clutch thrust bearing. If its making a grinding noise, it may indicate the clutch plate itself is on its way out.

If you drop the clutch at speed and coast and the noise goes, then it would suggest the issue is with the wheels side.
