Buying My First Car (Ford Fiesta 1.25 Zetec 2013 Model)

Featured Replies

Hi there. I'm buying my first car, a Ford Fiesta 1.25 Zetec model. It has a 13 plate, and registered in March 2013.

I'm buying it from a trust Ford dealership, so it should be legitimate. However, I have a question.

The warranty runs out on March 2016, but I have the option to extend it by 1, 2, or 3 years. (£379, 599, 799 respectively).

I wanted to know if you thought I should get the added warranty, and if so why? (or why not?)

Thank-you.

Welcome, sounds nice. I can't wait to get my first car.

Tbh I wouldn't bother with the extended warranty, is the car really going to cost you nearly £400 in the first year? You'd certainly hope not at that age, and Fiestas seem quite reliable...

Off topic but, why the 1.25? For me personally insurance was actually cheaper for the 1.0l Ecoboost than the 1.25! Certainly a better engine too.

ECOboost is more expensive. And this one is kitted out with all the additional features, and had a very good price, so thought "why not".

Would I be able to renew my warranty when it runs out in March if I wanted too?

Ah yes hats a good point! If the car does what it needs for you it sounds perfect. :)

And yes I don't see why not.

I'd like to know 100% first before I commit to not renewing it with the dealership tbh!

A warranty is basically insurance, buying it affords you some peace of mind should an acceptable claim occur, not buying it results in a gamble that the vehicle is likely to be ok.

A 2013 car SHOULD be ok - but as we all know, if it can go wrong, at some point it will

The Fiesta 1.25 engine is a tried & trusted powerplant & I'd recommend the 82bhp / 80ps version over the lower output alternative.

The Fiesta itself doesn't really have much to prove - it's a very good car.

If you plan keeping the car for several years, a warranty may be sensible.

In addition to what mark said above, it has to be the 82PS .

This is really a question of your affordability, take the gamble and you may save yourself a lot of money however if something does go wrong you sill need to cough up or buy the warranty and if something does go wrong it's covered however if all is fine that money is down the drain.

If it were me I'd probably just save the money in a separate pot and if something does go wrong you got the spare cash to sort it out and if it doesn't your quids in :)

Enjoy your first car and be safe!

Thanks. Yeah, i'm sure it's the 82 PS version.

Says the horsepower is 82. Is that PS?

Got any tips for keeping the car in good nick? Insurance is quite high, so I think i'll revisit whether or not to add warranty at the end of the current one.

It's 82BHP - that's the better engine

Welcome. With warranties everyone is going to have a different opinion obviously.

If you do go for the warranty, make sure you know what is covered on it, They do vary. Plus people think everything is covered on them. Lot of people do not realise everyday wear and tear things are not covered on the biggest majority of warranties.

Enjoy your new car,

I must admit, I would always consider taking out a warranty, but I wouldnt necessarily do it through the dealer.

I have previously used "Warranty Direct". A very good plan, doesnt cost the earth and to be fair, a lot is covered, I would always go comprehensive. Their prices are low, and they don't use dealers to do the work.
