Fastlife91
My car is a 2006 mk2 focus sport TDCI 1.8A few weeks ago my friend cut my MAF sensor wiring because the wires were torn, he botched it up because he ran out of wires and he still hasn't got the wires yet to finish the job. I think he's going to fuse them onto the current wires. The next day I noticed a whining noise, usually only at higher speeds for example when overtaking or going up a steep hill and putting my foot down in 3rd gear. As soon as I take it out of gear the whine stops. The noise is not present during idle and cannot be heard by opening the bonnet with engine ticking or revving.could that have anything to do with cutting maf sensor wires ? Timing belt was changed about 6 months ago. Turbo bearing was replaced about 3 months ago ( bearing was from a car salvage yard) as turbo was off anyway during EGR replacement , my friend said it had slight play in turbo bearing so said it made sense to replace it whilst it was off anyway. I've only began noticing this sound over recent weeks Car is very steady on idle, smooth also any ideas ? thanks to all
Dales
Have you checked the turbo hose. might be split and its only making the noise when boosting, but that is more of a whistling/ whishing noise. Sorry Im no good at describing noises. Might be worth a check though. Think the Focus 1.8 diesels are bad for the turbo hose splitting. It split on my Focus Diesel. Hi Is the turbo hose the hose that the oil flows through ? I have had a turbo hose leak twice. First time was 1 day after the EGR Valve and manifold was replaced by my friend, I was at the town center and suddenly realize my car was out of oil, the oil light came on and I turned off the engine immediately and had it towed to my friends house to be repaired. after I got my car back the same thing happened again after 5 miles of driving, and again I had it towed to his house. we noticed the other week that is it still leaking slightly so I will be replacing that for an actual pipe this time instead of my friend botching it up. I don't think this is related tot the noise I'm hearing but it's a possibility I suppose Thanks
jeebowhite
The turbo hose is the one that deals with the air, not the oil, so a seperate likely issue. Basically, if the hose is split or cracked, it will leak the air out prior to boost, which can let out a noise. Depending on the damage - you would note either a whistle or a whine, so its quite likely to be linked.
