Why Does My Cars' Speed Drop Suddenly At Higher Speed And Then Struggles To Accelerate ?

Featured Replies

My friend cut the mass air flow wiring on my 2006 mk2 focus 1.8 TDCI because we discovered the ends of the wires were torn after the diagnostics test revealed maf sensor circuit a open.
He ran out of wire and botched up the job and said he'll finish the job when he get's more wires, says he'll just fuse them on. that was several weeks ago and I am still waiting for him to do it.

Anyway , next day after he cut the wires, I was driving on the motorway and about to do a overtake, once I got to 70 mph I feel a tiny little thud, ( almost unnoticeable) and then my car refuses to accelerate and very slowly my speed began to fall and whenever I tried to accelerate again it would accelerate very slow.
It's happened a few times since, usually once I get to 70 mph it happens, though very rarely I can accelerate past 70 mph + with no speed fall .
Glow plugs have been out and tested and all seem fine, all glowing when tested.
Am I right to think it's because of the situation with the maf sensor wiring ?
as problem only began after cutting wires.

thanks

how was the MAF wiring repaired?

I suspect the signals from the MAF are going skewey at certain resistance measurements, the ECU is trying to read them but stops, so fail safe's back to a default airflow value, adjusting the fuel accordingly, resulting in your reduction!

Hi

Not sure exactly how it was ''repaired'' but it looks frigging awful. He said it was just for now until he get's more wire to finish the job and says he'll pick some up from scrapyard, that was weeks ago and he says he still hasn't been, when I offer to go to a car yard to find some he say's oh no, they won't have any''.

He also has hold of the little plastic piece that the maf wiring are supposed to be in that connect to the sensor itself, and I think he has lost that

I did say to him before he cut the wires (without trying to appear insulting ) had he done it before and does he know what he is doing, he said yes he had and he know's what he is doing. obviously it doesn't seem like he does

I feel like he's making excuses. Maybe I should find a different mechanic to do the job.

please answer the following questions below.

A. Is it really difficult to find replacement wiring for maf sensor ?

B. Would bad maf wiring affect fuel economy ?

C. How difficult is it to repair maf wiring ?

D. the wiring that are go to my maf sensor aren't the same color as shown on the diagram on the computer, why ?

huge thanks, and please answer questions A - D

Cheers
