Ford Focus 2010 1.6 Tdci Estate Power Steering Angle Sensor

Featured Replies

Does any member know what year the power steering angle sensor was fitted to the Ford Focus Style 1.6 tdci Estate or is their any website that may have the information. My car was registered on the 1st of January 2010.

I would have thought all cars with ESP would need it to be honest so if you car has ESP...

I agree but our local ford garage tells me that i need a new steering column and sensor in order to clear the power steering malfunction alarm . They now tell me that my steering column does not have a sensor on it and one can not be fitted. They also tell me that the wiring harness has a connecter on it for the sensor. This problem has arisen after a service upgrade of my engine management system hence my reason for trying to find the the year these sensors were fitted to my model of the focus.

I would hang around and see if Iantt can answer this one.

Im lead to believe esp was standard fit from 2008 onwards, the early focus had steering angle sensor on the rack, and at some point they fitted them attatched on the rear of clockspring assembly.

But if there saying it hasnt got one , then im wrong on date they became standard fit.

Perhaps the abs module needs a reset after pcm update, so it knows you havent got esp, assuming you dont have it?

Thanks iantt,

I will ask if the new abs module has been reset after the pcm upgrade. the garage manager told me they had reprogrammed the new abs unit.

They also tell me the speedo will not work until this steering angle sensor is fitted thus enabling the abs to communicate with the cluster. I wonder if they may have upgraded with the wrong software program for model of car.

So what was the original issue with your car anyway?

The car was due its 103,000 mile service. It was running perfect. I had had a engine malfunction alarm come on and go off weeks earlier . No engine problem or any alarm light showed on the cluster. After the service all these problems have appeared one after another. Earlier on in this problem i read some ware that The estate version of the focus was not fitted with the angle sensor until mid 2009. Also my estate was a uk version imported into Ireland. At the moment it has been in a Ford main agent garage for the last 3 weeks and is no nearer to being fixed. Even after1 map sensor, 3 PCM units, abs module and pump unit, a cluster and now they say a steering column and angle sensor. To me the one common factor in all this is al these modules software had the same upgrade applied.

Sounds like they havent a clue what there doing unfortunatly.

That's what i think. I have from the beginning asked for the upgrades to be removed and the original software to be reinstalled but i am told this is impossible. One thing i noticed after the first upgrade was a significant increase in power and a decrease of approx 9 mpg fuel consumption. The garage reopens tomorrow after our bank holiday and i will ask some serious questions. I joined My Ford today and when i accessed it to my dismay i found that the engine listed in my car is 1.6 L Duratorq CRTC (90PS) - DV6T. The Log Book says it is a 1.6 TDCI Style 109 HP. Maybe this might explain some of the ongoing problems. I will contact Ford Ireland tomorrow morning to find out what is going on and ask for a detailed list of all the components reference to my problems. eg the electronic modules and software versions.

Contacted Ford Ireland today. Asked for Confirmation on the modules fitted to my car.

Ford confirmed that no esp system was fitted. They also confirmed that once a pcm program was upgraded the original software cannot be reinstalled.

Also they have asked me to e-mail a complete history of the problems with the car since the service visit in order to help them understand and solve the problems. When they have this they will take it up with the garage so that the car will be usable again.
