Free Mobile Network

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

For those of you skin flints out there (myself included!) there is a new network which has recently arrived in the UK. Not sure if you have ever heard of them, bu they have been big in the US for the last three years, and they are growing phenomenally quick.

The company is Freedom Pop - all you need is a smart phone (normal phones will not work).

You sign up, and you have three options - Free, 1GB (£8) or 2GB (£11).

The free package gives you 200 mb data, 200 minutes and 200 texts.

1GB gives you a thousand of each, and the 2GB two thousand of each.

Not a bad deal really!

I used to use Samba Mobile before they bunked out, but this looks like a good alternative.

So if you need a cheap package, all you have to pay is about £7 up front (sim activation and delivery) and then the rest is free.

I will probably be getting one towards the end of the month. If nothing else I might set it up in the car as a basic internet connection. as you can earn more internet by doing surveys and watching stuff and other jazz, you can build up a nice bit of data. Though mine will be predominantly for my dash droid, so it has a network connection for the likes of the satnav traffic, and things like that.

Anyway, have a look and enjoy the freedom!

Ive had a look on there website, and went through the motions of ordering one, if your not carefull you can end up paying for extras, but with a few tick boxes unticked then its £7 as you said.

Looks a very good deal if your a light user

There using the three network for coverage, which I was on and never had any reception issues round my area.

Yeah it's definitely a good deal been watching for them since they announced in spring they would be coming mid summer. Definitely good for light users or even as an emergency phone in the car.

Thats not a bad offer. It will be good for the kids i suppose..

Absolutely. Cheap phone, free tarrif and if they have friends on it, completely free as they won't even run out of minutes lol

  • Author

Haha not to my knowledge

Sounds highly suspicious to me... But then offer someone a great deal for free and they will query the catch!

Its based on the freemium service. entice you in with a cheap deal, you realise you need more data, or more minutes so you pay out the next package. So few people these days would get away with the free package being minimal use like that, on a smartphone, 200mb wouldnt normally get you far enough...

did you end up buying a sim card?

  • Author

I haven't yet. U do plan on doing it but right now with Christmas and an impending baby I am holding off on some none essentials. Especially as I had a garage replace thermostat and fuel filter at the start of the month!

This sounds good for Tracking devices in cars..

And for that spare phone, you keep in the glovebox: just in case

Just in case the govt wants to track you when you're not wearing a tin hat?!?!?

Sounds suspicious to me

Just so you know, it only works in smartphones. Sadly you can't chuck them in just any phone.

Right, Freedompop is now active, and whats best, its free - no, even more free than free.

Currently there is no activation fee, no shipping, just free sim, and a free months trial with 500 minutes, texts and data. However a couple of things to note:

1) Make sure you cancel the free trial, you have to provide a card number incase you do not downgrade, in which case its £4.99 a month

2) This service can only be used on smartphones, to my knowledge an app needs installing to allow the service to function

If you sign up using this link below it is a referral link, and I would get 10mb free for anyone who signs up, but I believe you also get additional internets too... still awaiting clarification on that one!

go forth and enjoy free service!

This sounds too much like the movie kingsman... I'm arming up!

That's unfortunate:sad:

My spare glovebox smartphone runs on Samsungs proprietary Bada.

  • Author

Unfortunately so!

There is a thread on XDA developers, where various people have tried flashing the rom, with varying success, to put Android rather than Bada on their older Samsungs.

However, Samsung are not involved and haven't offered any help. It was down to XDA developer participants to work out which switch did what within the proprietary code: some are known but many are not.  Many bricked phones have resulted from trying it. One chap got his working in every aspect except getting it to make and receive phone calls:ohmy::laugh:

Periodically, I think I might have a go, it's a spare phone and then I read the latest "I've bricked my phone with the supposed error free rom" thread: and I decide not to:unsure:
