Painting Focus Zetec S Front Grill And Fog Surrounds

Featured Replies

I was thinking of painting the front grill and fog surrounds of my car with black plasti dip and then metallic plasti dip clear coat, don't want to run out of paint or buy excessive amounts so with cans being around 450ml each any one have a clear idea of how many cans of black paint and clear coat I would need assuming around 3 coats of each.

Help would be appreciated

I had mine done but painted gloss black instead of being plasti dipped! Made so much difference! I'm just in the process of painting my fog cover bessels and I have used 1 tin of plastic primer 1 tin of primer 1 tin of blue paint and a tin of clear lacquer just on the bessels haha so I would suggest a few tins of each mate.

I'll grab two cans of each then mate, have you got a picture of what it all looks like painted or not?

Here are the plastics

And here is a picture of the bessels just waiting for the lacquer to dry and then I can get them on the car and get a picture of it all complete :)

Did you sand it all down or just whack the paint straight on? might just buy primer and metallic finish paint, that would cost less

The plastics I had done by a paint shop, but I do believe you have to Sand it down prime it, then possibly sand it down again until you get completely rid of the textured surface. Keep doing it until it is completely smooth, the you can apply your paint but I would suggest around 3 coats of paint for each and then maybe 2 - 3 coats of clear lacquer.

I think ill just plasti- dip if for now and if I like the look, peel it all off and smooth and paint in the summer, waiting for my ST radiator grill to arrive at the moment then ill invest in some dip!
