Are All Exhaust Systems The Same?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just a quick question on this, I am picking up my mk 6 1.4TDCi next Saturday, my question is, are all Fiesta exhaust systems the same eg are they interchangeable?

I have declared an exhaust mod on the insurance and am looking to get a basic back box or indeed catback system to let the engine breathe slight better. Just wondering if all of the exhaust systems are the same eg I can just get say a 1.25 zetec exhaust (for example) and that would directly fit.

Failing that, can anyone confirm the exhaust pipe size so I can just fit a universal backbox instead.

Thanks in advance!

Some parts of the system might be, but parts like the silencer are usually specific to the engine as they are designed with the correct resonant frequencies to "muffle" properly.

Thanks for that, I might just look to cut the OEM backbox off and fit a universal backbox, will see what its like when I get the car, its only a small engine after all!

Diesel exhausts will have a larger stock diameter compared to petrol models.

Diesel stock may be 1.75"

Petrol stock may be 1.52" or less

A petrol muffler will clog up and damage a diesel engine because it's not designed for the same gasses passing through it.

if purchasing "universal muffler" find out if it's for petrol or diesel engines too 😉

Cheapest option perhaps take the car to an exhaust manufacturing specialist and have a 2" resonated cat back system built

shouldn't be more than 250-300 in stainless steel fitted.

would be 200-250 without resinator just pipe, muffler and tip but the cabin noise would wreck your head on long journeys.

Pumaspeed may sell an off the shelf bolt on for the 1.6TDCi Mk6 fiesta ZetecS

which will fit straight on to the 1.4TDCi in theory there both the same from catalyst back;

I can't see Ford manufacturing two different cat backs for the 1.4TDCi and the 1.6TDCi models.

The focus diesels have all the same cat back exhaust from 1.6TDCi, 1.8TDCI and 2.0TDCi variants.

Here's a ready built miltek designed for the 1.6TDCi Fiesta ZetecS can fit the 1.4TDCi

Local custom exhaust manufacturer's are generally 100 pounds cheaper than off the shelf brand name exhausts.

however off shelf exhausts generally come with dyno graphs promising set level of performance gains not to mention the increase in street credit 🙆

Hmm the other option was indeed going down the custom route, could look at something like a 2.5" catback system, on my Merc I have simply removed the rear silencer and fitted a straight piece of pipe, even straight through systems on diesel cars aren't that loud.

I think it cost me something like £2 extra on the insurance to allow me to fit a different exhaust, I will be fitting a better air filter and seeing if there is much restriction in the exhaust. Not seen an OEM rear silencer cut open so I can't see how bad it might be, although will probably be clogged with soot etc.

Does anyone know if a zetec s exhaust system will fit straight on to a standard zetec? 👍
