Maf Problem !! Changed Maf Sensor And Wiring, Still A Fault ! Please Help

Featured Replies

Hi all

My car is a 2006 mk2 focus 1.8 TDCI Sport

Car was plugged in after engine light found, codes were open circuit maf sensor. I bought a brand new maf sensor and my mechanic cut off the torn wires and soldered some more on.

However car is still chugging, refusing to accelerate usually when cold or going very slow unable t o pick up speed , and engine light is still on reading open circuit maf sensor !

My mechanic was very confused when looking at the wring as the color didn't seem to match up as the diagram showed or something, I'm not sure if he finally sussed out the wiring sequence or not but I know that there is still a problem there but why!

It also has 6 wires originally but my friend said he couldn't understand that as the sensor only has 4 prongs or something so he has just connected the 4 wires up and looped the other 2 .

Please, any ideas ?

My engine has been chugging since the day of purchase and I can't understand why ?

It is not constantly chugging, I'd probably say more often when cold but not necessarily always. But when it does chug it sound's awful and then within a few minutes it usually changes back to a normal engine sound.

Can a bad MAF or the wiring cause this ?

I ask as I'm having problems at the moment with my MAF sensor and/or wiring and despite replacing the sensor and wiring I'm still having several problems including the engine light still on and reading maf open circuit

You need an auto electrician - not a mechanic, who from reading your previous posts, seems more of a hindrance than helpful.

Take the car to someone that knows what they are doing would be my advice
