Smax With Cracked Panoramic Roof

Featured Replies

Hi All

New here so not sure if this is a place to post, tried searching this topic but a little unfruitful

We are looking at buying an 11 plate SMax 2.0TDi 163 with X pack

There is a small crack towards the rear of the panoramic roof, doesn't seem to be from a stone chip or anything. The dealer has knocked £1500 off it due to this (apparently it is an ex Ford dealers car and ha been there for 2 years etc etc etc...... not sure what to believe but does have Ford Dealer fsh, so think they would have noticed it even though is not part of the service (I don't think))

Obviously this isn't going to be cheap to fix, I was wondering if there is a problem with the pan roofs that causes this as there is no obvious damage, is it a manufacturing fault.

I am guessing they are made from toughened laminated glass, so its not going to suddenly shatter into a million bits showering the occupants with shrapnel (we will be having a very special passenger with us in a few weeks on his first car journey)

It's a nice car and we are stretching ourselves a little to get it and will prob have it for a while, is it a barge pole job (as in don't touch it with) or is it something that is at least safe to live with.

Thx

JJ

The main issue here is safety i.m.o.

Weakened glass weakens the structural strength of the vehicle.

I would obtain a quote for either professional repair or ideally replacement before proceeding with the purchase

I would go with replacing.

Personally a crack like that on the roof would drive me bonkers, even if it had been replaced.
