Gallantfive
Hanging down from the driver's footwell in my daughters 2009 Fiesta 1.25 Petrol Zetec is a small yellow plug with two thin wires attached, bound together in a thin loom. It is close to the drivers footwell light which is working perfectly. About 10cms along the footwell light loom it combines with the yellow socket wiring loom (also about 10cm long) into a thicker loom. Everything seems to be working in the car so I am at a loss as to what this yellow plug is. There is no obvious socket under the dash for this yellow plug to attach to. Oddly, the plug is broken so may once have been in use. I do not know the history of the car. I have a photo which hopefully you can see. Any ideas? Sportvan
That's for the drivers knee airbag, any connector in yellow/orange is for safety systems in a modern vehicle.
iantt
I thought that, but no mention of air bag light on? That disconnected should bring light on, unless certain specs have knee airbags and others dont? So could just be spare in loom.
yunii
Even if your car hasnt got knee airbag the plug should be plugged into a blank somewhere & not dangling about like that.it will have been moved from its location as ford generally tape away unused multiplugs into loom. Gallantfive
Thank you so much for your replies. Further investigation shows the drivers knee airbag is missing and the connector as above damaged slightly!!! Off to Ford to be replaced. Gallantfive
p.s. No idea why airbag light did not come on; I'll mention this to Ford.
GingerFlame
Possibly been disabled so prevent the airbag light coming on? Pretty dodgy in my opinion..

There is defenitly supposed to be a drivers knee airbag on this model. I had a december 2009 tit x fiesta and it had the "knee airbag" Jamie
Sportvan
The titanium's got knee bag as standard as did the fiesta sport van. As far as I am aware it was optional on everything else. Even now only Titanium, ST, and Sport vans come with the knee bag.
Sportvan
Check your cars build on Etis, that will tell you everything you need to know.
Gallantfive
Thanks for the replies, I must wait on my daughter before I can enter the VIN into Etis (will not accept VRN). Not sure if mine had a knee bag or not, yet. The broken connector suggests it did and that possibly the original airbag was deployed. Ford will tell me, I'm sure. As these are a sealed unit is there any reason I shouldn't fit a second-hand one from the same Mark and possibly younger?

Sportvan
The broken connector is probably where its been dislodged from its storage location. If the car had a knee bag it will show in etis, likewise, it would illuminate the airbag light if it was there but unplugged.
Gallantfive
Presumably this airbag is the 'Inflatable Knee Bolsters - Driver'? If so then according to Etis my daughter's car should have one.
Sportvan
That's the one. How long has she had the car? Look for the word "airbag" on the piece of trim near to the little storage pocket, its to the right under the steering column.
ChristoP
Guys hi I have the same problem and I have a ford Fiesta 2017 model. The yellow connector and a grey connector are dangling down at the footwell. Any ideas?
