laumk7
My cars been in a few times with little niggly teething problems, this one is the latest. The warning message 'key is outside car' displays when my passenger door has been opened after a short journey, (dunno about long journey as I don't tend to do them lol), and I'm seriously worried the car will stall as a result. I've already booked it in to be looked at, but just wondered if there was anything I could do about it myself. The key (the car is 100% keyless) lives in my pocket or in the little tray between the gear lever and the handbrake, the latter is where it was this morning when the message displayed. Bizarrely yesterday the key was in my pocket and it didn't do this Would /could the usb be doing this? There's one in there playing at the time (not the Chinese one, I chucked that )
MONDEO TXS 2.2
Why do you think the car will stall because this message is being displayed Laurie ? I agree the message should not be there if the key is within the vehicle
laumk7
If the key's actually outside the vehicle, I'm concerned the car wouldnt work as it should, and if it's not detecting it's own key that's an issue :worried:
MONDEO TXS 2.2
I see no reason for it to stall, although it may not restart once turned off if the key isn't detected, so another trip to your friendly Fraud stealer is now in your diary as there's definitely an issue somewhere :)
MONDEO TXS 2.2
Try the other key & see if it does the same - maybe the battery in the key you use most often is going flat ?

laumk7
Well it's in, still none the wiser about what's causing it, tech thinks it might be the power adapter thingy for the dashcam that goes in the car socket sitting next to the keys, but who honestly knows. They've ruled out the key battery as apparently that shows a message on the sync dash that battery is running low, and they've also ruled out the usb stick itself And they've given me another ruddy red courtesy car!!! :fuming:
laumk7
Well it's fixed the techies and ford mc who suggested they look at the earthing points all around the car. ... ....now I've got a new issue the audio sounds muffled and whereas before I couldn't have the volume past 12 or 13, I've now got it on 24 and it's STILL muffled
GingerFlame
Well it's fixed the techies and ford mc who suggested they look at the earthing points all around the car. ... ....now I've got a new issue the audio sounds muffled and whereas before I couldn't have the volume past 12 or 13, I've now got it on 24 and it's STILL muffled Are you sure you're using the correct source? And the volume on that source is sufficient?
Phil 87
I've always had the key in my pocket and never had this problem, but you were right yo complain to the dealer. Does it look like they caused the problem with the audio, and have you taken it back so they can fix it? I don't think the car would stall if it can't detect the key because that would be very dangerous especially at high speed.
Philf1
Car will it stop if you take the key out. Engine will run until stopped but then won't restart without the key. I just replaced my key battery after nearly 2 years a warning message comes up on the screen to tell you the battery is low Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC mobile app
Stoney871
I have found with dashcams that the power supply can sometimes produce interference between key and car when unlocking/locking. With my mk2 the central locking could be twitchy and on my ST the car doesn't always detect my key when opening the boot (keyfree). If i have the power cable unplugged there's no problems at all. laumk7
dashcam is now hardwired in and it hasn't done it since then so maybe that was the cause :dunno: The tech said about the different message if the batteries low, thank you though :)
