Zetec S Throttle Delay And Non Starting Issues

Featured Replies

m having problems with my 2009 fiesta zetec s, it has a delay when I accelerate, and all my lights on the dashboard come on and all needles drop to zero even though I can be driving at 70mph on the motorway, I've put a new battery in and had all the faults cleared but it's still doing it, it's not all the time just now and again, and sometimes it fails to start completely, I turn the key and there is nothing, I have to just keep trying and eventually it will start, anyone having the same problem or know a solution without me being ripped off as a female?

Sounds like a bad instrument cluster to me unfortunately.

Check that both battery terminal connections are properly tight & the connection that goes from the negative on the battery to the car body is tight

The battery is brand new, it was happening before and after the new battery, so it has been checked, so have all the connections , it sounds expensive (bad instrument cluster), how do I know if it may be that?

the fact the entire cluster drops off and then comes back is highly suspicious. You can remove the cluster, and check the connection is secure and no wires are loose to the connector.

If they are all tight and the issue persists, you can send it off to a specialist, who for £30 will diagnose it and return it not faulty, or for £99 will repair it for you.

There is an issue with Fiesta and Focus' whereby the solder joins break up and cause loss of connectivity, and this causes the dropouts you see.
